Helena Tarruell Tibau is a pioneering motorsport racer leading the first Spanish all-woman truck team, with aspirations to compete in the prestigious Dakar Rally.
EARLY YEARS
Helena comes from a motorsport family, with her uncle Rafael Tibau being a veteran of the Dakar Rally who has participated in both competition and assistance roles over many years.
EARLY SUCCESS
Tarruell’s competitive racing journey began at the Dakar Classic in 2021, where she served as co-driver in a Toyota HDJ80 Land Cruiser alongside Pere Barrios. The duo achieved considerable success, finishing tenth overall, seventh in the H1 category, and fourth in H1.5[4].
NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENTS
- 2021: Completed the Dakar Classic as co-driver, finishing tenth overall and seventh in the H1 category[4].
- 2024: Formed and led the first all-woman Spanish truck team at the Baja España Aragón, driving an IVECO PowerStar[4].
REPUTATION
Helena has established herself as a trailblazer in motorsports, particularly for forming the first all-woman Spanish truck team. Working alongside navigator Jaqueline Ricci and mechanic Rebeca Aramburu, she is breaking barriers in a male-dominated sporting discipline. Her connection to the experienced Tibau Team, founded by her uncle, brings credibility to her racing endeavors.
FUTURE GOALS/PLANS
Tarruell aims to eventually compete in the Dakar Rally proper with her all-women team, potentially becoming part of just the third women-only truck stable to participate in the prestigious race[4]. She is also scheduled to participate in the 2025 Dakar Classic alongside other all-woman teams[4].
