FULL BIO: Melanie Johnson
Melanie Johnson is a rising star in motorsports who made her competitive debut in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series regional event in Las Vegas in 2024.
EARLY YEARS
Growing up as the daughter of Alan Johnson, a 13-time Top Fuel world champion tuner, Melanie was immersed in racing culture from an early age. Her father’s extensive experience and success in the sport provided a strong foundation for her own racing aspirations and development as a driver.
EARLY SUCCESS
In 2024, Melanie dedicated herself to competing in Super Comp, working with Tom Bayer Racing across six events to develop her driving fundamentals and improve her reaction times. Her hard work paid off in August 2024 when she earned her Top Alcohol Dragster license after completing three successful passes at a test session following the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals in Brainerd, Minnesota.
NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENTS
- 2024: Made competitive debut in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series regional event at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway[1].
- 2024: Earned Top Alcohol Dragster license with impressive passes including a 5.289-second run at 267.53 mph[1].
- 2024: Qualified fifth in her first TAD competition with a 5.291-second pass at 274.11 mph[1].
REPUTATION
Though new to Top Alcohol Dragster competition, Melanie has already demonstrated excellent track awareness and starting-line patience according to industry observers. Her father Alan Johnson has publicly expressed pride in her racing development, particularly noting her ability to handle the increased acceleration of an A/Fuel dragster and her natural talents behind the wheel.
FUTURE GOALS/PLANS
Looking ahead, Melanie plans to run a full season in Top Alcohol Dragster in 2025. She is actively pursuing sponsorship opportunities and coordinating with McPhillips Racing for additional seat time to further develop her skills. Her ultimate goal is to become a TAD World Champion, continuing the Johnson family legacy in NHRA drag racing established by her father and late uncle, Blaine Johnson.
