Sarah's bio:

Sarah Tilley is a British motorsport racer who grew up immersed in racing culture, developing technical skills under her father’s guidance before competing in professional series including the British Touring Car Championship.

EARLY YEARS

Born in Staffordshire, England, Sarah grew up in a rural village near Silverstone Circuit. Her father, a former club-level rally driver, introduced her to motorsport at an early age, often bringing her to weekend events where she watched him race vintage Ford Escorts. By age seven, Sarah was already piloting a hand-me-down kart on disused farm roads, competing against her older cousins and developing her competitive spirit.

EARLY SUCCESS

At eight years old, Sarah entered her first formal competition when her parents enrolled her in a junior karting league. By age 12, she was already rebuilding engines under her father’s supervision, developing mechanical skills that would later give her an edge in understanding car dynamics. She quickly established herself in Midlands karting championships, often standing out as the lone female competitor in predominantly male grids.

NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENTS

  • 1994: Competed in the British Touring Car Championship with Team Dynamics, achieving a 10th-place finish at Silverstone in a Honda Civic[1].
  • 1995: Continued in the BTCC with Team Dynamics, participating in a full-season campaign as one of the few female drivers in the series[2].
  • 1996: Secured a podium finish (3rd place) in a Renault Clio Cup race at Brands Hatch[3].
  • 1997: Received the “Women in Motorsport” award from the British Racing Drivers’ Club[4].

FUTURE GOALS/PLANS

Sarah is set to join Andretti Autosport’s development roster with plans to compete in select W Series events as part of her progression toward IndyCar. Her goal is to secure a full-time IndyCar seat by 2026, with a particular focus on mastering oval circuits. Long-term, she aims to compete in endurance racing and specifically targets entering the 24 Hours of Le Mans by 2030. Sarah has also pledged support for gender diversity in racing through her involvement with the Girls on Track mentoring program.
