Erika Hoffmann went from rolling up to her first race in her family’s Hyundai Accent to making history with the first all-female 1-2 finish in Porsche Sprint Challenge North America—all in just a few years.
EARLY YEARS
Growing up in Barrhaven, a suburb of Ottawa, Canada, Hoffmann was a multi-sport athlete who loved motorsports from afar but never imagined she could actually race[1]. She assumed—like so many do—that racing required starting young, living in Europe, and having piles of money[2]. None of those applied to her. When she finally got her driver’s license, she decided to test herself anyway. She rolled up to her racing debut at a local autocross event in her family’s base-level Hyundai Accent, complete with roll-down windows[3]. That humble beginning would set the tone for everything that followed: grit over glamour, drive over dollars.
OTHER INTERESTS
As a child, Hoffmann didn’t dream of being a race car driver—she wanted to be a CEO[4]. She was drawn to leadership, building something meaningful, and making an impact. That ambition would eventually find its outlet both on and off the track.
EARLY SUCCESS
In 2019, Hoffmann began driving at Calabogie Motorsports Park in Ontario[5]. She quickly qualified for the local series and came heartbreakingly close to winning the season championship, missing it by just one point[6]. She walked away with the Ottawa title anyway—not bad for someone who’d barely been behind the wheel. But the real breakthrough came after COVID, when she entered the Formula Woman International Driver Search, a multi-round competition that drew 1,000 drivers from 35 countries[7]. Hoffmann had almost no racing experience compared to the field. Against all odds, she won the entire competition, taking 1st place overall[8]. The victory launched her onto the international stage and earned her a seat racing a McLaren 570S GT4 in the European GT Cup Championship in 2022[9]. She was one of the few North Americans in the series and regularly contended for top-10 finishes in Group GTH[10]. It was a long way from that Hyundai Accent.

INSPIRATIONS
Hoffmann’s journey was shaped less by childhood heroes and more by a refusal to accept the idea that racing wasn’t for someone like her. She didn’t have the typical racing pedigree, and that’s exactly what drives her—proving that access and opportunity matter more than background.
REPUTATION
Hoffmann has built a reputation as someone who shows up, does the work, and doesn’t complain about the uphill battle. She’s known for being a strong defensive driver—her first PSCNA victory at Road Atlanta came from a masterful defensive performance that held off challengers lap after lap[22]. But beyond the track, she’s recognized for creating opportunities rather than just taking them. As co-founder of Slate Racing, she’s committed to breaking barriers and opening doors for women in motorsport[23]. She’s vocal about the “burden of excellence” women in racing carry—the subtle pressure to be perfect because one mistake reflects on all women, not just yourself[24]. That honesty, paired with her results, has made her a respected voice in the paddock and a driver to watch.
FUTURE GOALS/PLANS
Hoffmann is competing in the 2025 Porsche Sprint Challenge North America season with support from Solairus Aviation and other sponsors[25]. She continues to work with Kellymoss, a top-tier team focused heavily on driver development[26]. Beyond her own racing, she’s building Slate Racing into a meaningful platform for women in the sport, creating pathways for the next generation. She’s also an advocate for organizations like Shift Up Now, which actively supports women and girls in motorsports[27]. Hoffmann’s goals are clear: keep racing, keep winning, and keep proving that the door to this sport is wider than anyone thought.
