  Lauren Sullivan is a pioneering motorsports engineer and spotter who made history as the first female spotter for an NTT INDYCAR SERIES race victory, building her impressive career at Team Penske before joining Arrow McLaren as Lead Test Engineer.

  EARLY YEARS

  Born in 1988 in Walnut, California, Lauren grew up immersed in racing culture. Her parents, both deeply involved in motorsports, created an environment where racing wasn’t just entertainment—it was a family tradition. Weekend outings often revolved around racetracks, with NASCAR and IndyCar discussions being standard dinner table conversation. This early exposure sparked Lauren’s passion for both the technical and competitive aspects of racing.

  Her engineering talent emerged early. In fifth grade, Lauren built a wind tunnel for a science fair project that won a blue ribbon in 1999. By seventh grade, she was already tackling complex engineering challenges, including a bridge-building contest that showcased her problem-solving abilities. A particularly formative moment came when she met racing legend John Force at a National Hot Rod Association race in California, further cementing her connection to the motorsports world.

  EARLY SUCCESS

  After initially pursuing meteorology and physics at Saint Louis University, Lauren found her true calling in aerospace engineering. Her professional journey in motorsports began in 2015 when she joined Team Penske’s NASCAR team as an engineer, effectively transitioning her technical expertise from aerospace to racing. Her background with her family’s Super Late Model team provided valuable insight as she adapted to the professional racing environment.

  Lauren quickly proved her value at Team Penske, contributing to the team’s technical development and performance optimization. Her analytical approach and problem-solving skills made her an asset during NASCAR’s Next Gen car rollout, where she helped the team adapt to the new technology and regulations. This early success established her reputation as a talented engineer with a unique perspective in the male-dominated racing industry.

  NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENTS

  • 2018: Contributed to Joey Logano’s NASCAR Cup Series Championship as part of Team Penske’s engineering team.
  • 2022: Played a key role in Team Penske’s INDYCAR championship-winning season.
  • 2024: Made history as the first female spotter for an NTT INDYCAR SERIES race victory at the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.

  For the 2025 season, Lauren will take on the position of Car Communicator for Kyle Larson and the No. 17 HendrickCars.com Arrow McLaren Chevrolet. This new role represents a significant career advancement and will allow her to apply her engineering knowledge and communication skills in a high-profile racing program. Beyond this specific assignment, she remains dedicated to elevating women’s presence in motorsports, using her platform to inspire and mentor the next generation of female racing professionals.

  Lauren’s long-term vision extends beyond her individual career achievements. She aims to leverage her unique position to create systemic change within the motorsports industry, advocating for greater diversity and inclusion at all levels. By demonstrating excellence in her technical role while actively promoting opportunities for women, she intends to help transform the traditionally male-dominated culture of racing into a more inclusive environment.
