Krista Baldwin is NHRA’s only third-generation Top Fuel driver, carrying forward a family legacy that includes her legendary grandfather Chris “The Greek” Karamesines and her late father Bobby Baldwin.

EARLY YEARS

Born and raised in Upland, California, just a few miles from the Pomona dragstrip, Baldwin grew up breathing nitro fumes and watching her family make history on the quarter-mile[1]. Her father, Bobby Baldwin, was an independent Top Fuel driver who raced from the late 1980s through 2001, owning and operating his own team[2]. Her grandfather, Chris “The Greek” Karamesines, became one of drag racing’s most enduring legends, retiring from driving at age 89 in late 2020 after decades of competition[3].

Baldwin got her start in drag racing at age 18 behind the wheel of a 7-second front-engine dragster[4]. She pursued her education at Northern Arizona University, earning a bachelor’s degree in Strategic Communications with an emphasis in Public Relations and a minor in Photography between 2012 and 2015[5]. Even while studying in Flagstaff at age 21, she was already dreaming of following her family into Top Fuel racing[6].

At 28 years old, Baldwin established herself as far more than a legacy driver trading on a famous name[23]. She’s respected as a serious businesswoman in the performance parts industry and a capable driver who’s put in the seat time to earn her place in the cockpit. Her work ethic is evidenced by her dual roles: managing creative direction for major racing brands while simultaneously campaigning a Top Fuel operation[24].

Her 2025 IHRA Outlaw Nitro Series run to the finals showcased her resilience and skill under pressure. FUTURE GOALS/PLANS

Baldwin is preparing for the 2026 season with her Krista Baldwin Racing operation, which she describes as “comprised of a team of individuals with world-class experience in drag racing at many levels”[30]. Her website is currently under construction as the team regroups and refocuses for the upcoming campaign[31]. The continuity of her technical team—with Scott Graham remaining as crew chief and Dan Minick as car chief—provides stability as she works to establish herself as a regular NHRA Top Fuel contender[32].

She’s also planning a wedding with Bobby Lane, her boyfriend and fellow racing enthusiast who has been part of her support crew[33]. Balancing a Top Fuel career, a wedding, and her corporate responsibilities at McLeod Racing and FTI Performance would overwhelm most people, but Baldwin has already proven she’s not most people. With three generations of drag racing excellence behind her and a hungry team around her, she’s positioning herself to make the Baldwin name a fixture in Top Fuel for years to come.
