Transgender women have been banned from competing in female events at the Olympics, with organisers saying the move will ‘protect fairness, safety and integrity in the female category’. The head of the International Olympic Committee says eligibility for female categories in both individual and team sports will be restricted to people born as women. So, is it right to ban transgender women from the Olympics?
Motor racing driver Charlie Martin is herself a trans woman, and believes it’s narrow-minded to assume all trans athletes have a competitive advantage. But science teacher Debbie Hayton, who is also a trans woman, believes this decision is the right one.
