Video Description from YouTube:
Before there were programmes encouraging women into motorsport, there was Mary McGee.
In the 1950s, when women were told racing was for men, Mary McGee refused to accept that. She built an extraordinary career across sports cars, motorcycle road racing, motocross and desert racing, becoming responsible for some of the most significant firsts in motorsport history.
From racing a Porsche Spyder and Ferrari Testa Rossa to becoming the first woman to road race motorcycles in the United States, the first woman to race motocross in the US, and the first person to complete the Baja 500 solo on a motorcycle, Mary continually redefined what was possible.
Her career spanned more than five decades, with her final competitive race taking place at the age of 76. Today, her legacy lives on through every woman who has followed in her tyre tracks.
If you’ve never heard of Mary McGee, it’s time you did.
