Video Description from YouTube:

Before women were a regular sight in professional motorsport, Shirley Muldowney was proving she belonged on the drag strip.

Known as “Cha Cha” and later the “First Lady of Drag Racing,” she became the first woman to earn an NHRA Top Fuel licence before going on to win three NHRA Top Fuel World Championships. Her career was defined by determination, resilience and an unwavering belief that she could compete with anyone who lined up beside her.

After a devastating crash in 1984 left her with life-threatening injuries, six major operations and 18 months of rehabilitation, many thought her racing career was over. Instead, Shirley returned to NHRA competition and continued racing select events until her retirement in 2003.

Away from the track, she founded Shirley’s Kids to support children in drag racing communities and inspired generations through her achievements, her resilience and her refusal to accept the limits others tried to place on her.

Shirley Muldowney didn’t just make history. She changed the future of drag racing.
