Welcome to DRIVE with Hollie McRae & Louise Aitken-Walker.

It is a rare opportunity to sit down and hear the stories of a world champion, let alone Britain’s FIRST World Rally Champion… in this episode of DRIVE, we do just that.

In 1990, Louise Aitken-Walker won the FIA Ladies World Rally Championship after a season of real highs and lows (which we of course dig into). Her story, however, is far more important than one specific title.
We discuss her upbringing in the small Scottish town that was also home to rallying and F1 legend, Jim Clark. It quickly becomes clear that Louises’s grit and determination were characteristics that she possessed long before stepping into a rally car and of course, she shares the story of her exceptional introduction to the sport.
The Women in Motorsport conversation in an important one and for the first time on DRIVE, we delve into the practicalities of what happens when life’s other priorities begin to compete with the love of the sport. Although Louise does not drive so often anymore, she is still very much involved and shares her hopes for the future of rallying.
