“It’s definitely a passion that runs in the family. My father used to take me to Monza every year to see the Italian leg of the Superbike Championship. I used to get super excited about it as a child. With motorcycling, it was love at first sight!”

Marta's bio:
Marta Massera grew up watching motorcycle racing at Monza and turned that childhood passion into a technical career at the heart of MotoGP, working as an engine designer and later Track Engine Coordinator at Ducati Corse.
EARLY YEARS
Massera is from Cremona, Italy, and describes motorsport as something she came to through family [1]. Her father made an annual ritual of taking her to Monza for the Italian round of the Superbike Championship, and the experience stuck. “It’s definitely a passion that runs in the family,” she said in a June 2018 Ducati interview. “My father used to take me to Monza every year to see the Italian leg of the Superbike Championship. I used to get super excited about it as a child. With motorcycling, it was love at first sight!” [1] The victories of Troy Bayliss are among the formative memories she associates with those early visits to the circuit [1].
She studied classics at school before pursuing mechanical engineering at the Polytechnic University of Milan, where she graduated in 2013 with a specialization in the design and dynamics of land vehicles [1]. While studying, she worked in a small garage in Cremona, an experience she credited with teaching her the practical basics of motorcycle mechanics [1]. After graduating, she applied to Ducati; roughly a year later, she was called in to interview for an engine-designer position [1].
OTHER INTERESTS
Massera has said she likes getting her hands dirty and considers creative intuition an essential part of solving technical problems in engine design [1]. Asked what she would tell women interested in entering the field, her answer was direct: follow your passion and never give up [1].
INSPIRATIONS
The annual trips to Monza with her father, and the Superbike racing they watched together, are the inspirations Massera has cited most directly [1]. Troy Bayliss’s victories at those events are specifically named as memories that shaped her relationship with motorcycles and, by extension, her professional direction [1]. On working in a field still dominated by men, she has said that doing work she loved made doubts disappear — and that the satisfaction of that work endured [1].
REPUTATION
Within Ducati, Massera is identified as an engine designer and, as of September 2026, as Track Engine Coordinator for Ducati Corse [1] [2]. Cycle News included her in coverage of the women working behind the scenes in the MotoGP paddock, recognizing her as part of the technical infrastructure that makes the championship run [2]. She has spoken publicly about what it means to be a woman in a largely male technical environment, framing passion as the practical answer to doubt rather than leaning on any single breakthrough moment [1].
