Video Description from YouTube:
🏁 Watch the NASCAR Cup Series drivers with the most career starts evolve from 1949 to 2026 in this animated bar chart race, covering more than 75 years of stock car racing history.
From NASCAR’s first Strictly Stock race in 1949 to the modern Cup Series, this visualization tracks how the all-time career starts leaderboard changed as generations of drivers built some of the longest careers in motorsports history.
Watch early NASCAR pioneers climb the rankings before legends including Richard Petty, David Pearson, Bobby Allison, Cale Yarborough, Darrell Waltrip and Bill Elliott reshape the record books.
Then came some of NASCAR’s greatest examples of longevity.
Richard Petty ultimately made an incredible 1,184 NASCAR Cup Series starts — the most in history and 278 more than second-place Ricky Rudd.
Rudd finished with 906 starts, followed by Terry Labonte with 890, Dave Marcis with 883 and Mark Martin with 882.
Other NASCAR legends including Kyle Petty, Bill Elliott, Kevin Harvick, Darrell Waltrip, Jeff Gordon, Michael Waltrip, Kurt Busch, Ken Schrader, Dale Earnhardt, Jimmie Johnson and many more built extraordinary careers across hundreds of Cup Series races.
The modern generation continues to climb the rankings.
Kyle Busch and Denny Hamlin are now among the most experienced active-era Cup Series drivers, with Hamlin reaching his 750th career Cup start at Bristol Motor Speedway during the 2026 season.
This bar chart race shows when each driver entered the leaderboard, how long they remained in NASCAR’s premier division and how more than seven decades of Cup Series racing produced some of the longest careers in motorsport.
