NBA superstar LeBron James and Hollywood actor Will Smith drew crowds in Luanda on Sunday as Angola hosted the UIM E1 World Championship for the first time.
Footage shows James and Smith meeting Angolan President Joao Lourenco before making their way through crowds of fans eager to catch a glimpse of the two stars.
The celebrity team owners were in the Angolan capital to back their electric powerboat racing teams during the September 12-13 event, the fifth round of the 2026 championship.
James is behind Team AlUla, while Smith owns Westbrook Racing by Visit Angola.
The championship also features teams linked to some of the biggest names in international sport, including former NFL star Tom Brady, football legend Didier Drogba and tennis great Rafael Nadal.
Team Brady won the inaugural Luanda Grand Prix.
“Great to win the first Luanda GP, we made history with that one and I’m super happy about my whole team and especially my teammate Sam, who did an amazing job,” said Team Brady pilot Emma Kimilainen.
“The Angolan organisation was amazing – so we are so glad and honoured to be here,” she added.
Luanda’s debut followed earlier 2026 rounds in Jeddah, Lake Como, Dubrovnik and Monaco.
Angola’s government has presented the race as part of its push to promote the country internationally as a tourism destination and attract investment.
