Jennea's bio:

Jennea Katic is a South African-born mechanical engineer and data engineer who turned a childhood spent around racetracks into a career on the technical side of motorsports, proving that you don’t have to be behind the wheel to compete at the highest level.

EARLY YEARS

Born in South Africa, Katic grew up immersed in automotive culture with both parents heavily involved in the industry.[1] Her weekends weren’t spent at playdates—they were spent at racetracks, absorbing the sounds, smells, and mechanics of racing from an early age. At age 8, she moved to the United States, settling in South Florida.[2] While her friends were having fun on weekends, she was working in her parents’ laundromat, folding clothes and learning the kind of work ethic that would define her later success.[3] “I was raised by my parents to think, if you want something, you have to work for it,” she later recalled.[3]

OTHER INTERESTS

Before she ever thought about torque specs or tire compounds, Katic was singing. At 14, she competed as an international voice competitor, performing “Part of Your World” from “The Little Mermaid” at the 2016 American Protégé International Vocal Competition, where she won a Judges’ Distinction Award.[4][5] The aspiring Broadway star had performed with the Fort Lauderdale Children’s Theater, sang the National Anthem at Marlins baseball games twice, and even wrote and recorded her own song in 2011.[2][6] An honors student at Westminster Academy in Fort Lauderdale and a two-time winner of the Pinnacle Award for Excellence, she studied under vocal coach Mike Soper, developing the discipline and stage presence that would translate surprisingly well to the high-pressure world of professional racing.[6] Musical theater taught her about longing, dreaming, and working toward something bigger—lessons she’d carry into engineering.[5]

EARLY SUCCESS

After high school, Katic landed an opportunity at Lockheed Martin as a government relations intern, but quickly realized she craved something more hands-on and technological.[7] She enrolled at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University to study mechanical engineering, where she joined the Formula SAE team, ERAU Motorsports, as a first-year student.[1][8] The team builds fuel-efficient racecars from scratch, and Katic didn’t expect major responsibilities right away. She got them anyway.[8] Her natural aptitude and willingness to learn fast-tracked her into leadership roles, and she eventually became president of the team.[9] It was a crash course in vehicle dynamics, teamwork, and what it takes to compete at a technical level—knowledge she’d soon take professional.

NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENTS

  • 2016: Won Judges’ Distinction Award at American Protégé International Vocal Competition.[4]
  • College: Served as President of Embry-Riddle’s Formula SAE team, ERAU Motorsports.[9]
  • Post-Graduation: Worked as a Data Engineer for Jr III Racing (Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s team) in IndyCar.[10]
  • Post-Graduation: Worked as a Contract Engineer for Jr III Racing.[11]
  • 2025: Named Race Engineer for AE Victory Racing, becoming the team’s only female presence on pit lane in a pivotal technical role.[12]

INSPIRATIONS

Katic’s inspiration didn’t come from a single driver or engineer—it came from her environment. Growing up around racetracks with parents who lived and breathed the automotive world shaped her understanding of what was possible.[1] Her musical theater background also played a surprising role, teaching her about storytelling, performance under pressure, and the discipline required to master a craft.[3][5] She learned early that if you want something, you work for it—no shortcuts, no excuses.[3]

REPUTATION

Katic has built a reputation as a sharp, technically skilled engineer who brings both precision and perspective to her work. Her teammates at AE Victory Racing have praised the dynamic she brings to the pit lane, noting that her presence and technical acumen add something special to the team.[12] She’s known for fusing seemingly disparate interests—musical theater and mechanical engineering—into a unique skill set that emphasizes discipline, attention to detail, and the ability to perform under pressure.[3] In an industry still dominated by men, she’s carved out her space not by making noise about it, but by simply being excellent at what she does.

FUTURE GOALS/PLANS

Katic has her sights set on multiple paths within motorsports. She envisions a career as a race engineer, competing as a driver in endurance racing, or even starting her own automotive manufacturing firm.[13] In 2025, she stepped into the pivotal role of Race Engineer for AE Victory Racing, a position that positions her as a key technical voice on race strategy and vehicle performance.[12] Whether she stays behind the scenes or steps into the cockpit herself, one thing is clear: she’s not done building yet.
