Suvi Jyrkiäinen is a Finnish rally driver from Hämeenlinna who inherited her need for speed from a family deeply rooted in motorsport—both parents were accomplished competitors, with her mother having a significant WRC presence. At just 24, she’s already caught the attention of the international rally scene, earning a coveted spot in the Beyond Rally Women’s Driver Development Programme and a fully supported WRC drive.
EARLY YEARS
Born around 1999-2000 in Hämeenlinna, Finland, Suvi grew up in a household where the smell of burnt rubber and the roar of engines was just part of daily life. “Motorsport has always been big part of my life since so many people from my family have been involved,” she explains. “It was always clear for me that I will be driving something one day since I was a small girl.” With parents who were both accomplished motorsport competitors—her mother notably having made her mark in the World Rally Championship—racing wasn’t just a hobby in the Jyrkiäinen household, it was destiny.

While motorsport clearly dominates her world, details about Suvi’s interests outside of racing remain as elusive as a perfect racing line through a forest stage. Suvi didn’t waste time getting behind the wheel—she started racing at 15 in the Finnish Championship with a Honda Civic, immediately proving she had inherited more than just her parents’ good looks. Her rookie season in 2016 earned her the best rookie driver award, a promising start that suggested the motorsport genes were definitely dominant. After cutting her teeth in circuit racing for several years and racking up multiple podium finishes in Finnish Championships, she made the leap to rallying in 2019. Talk about making an entrance—she finished second in class in her very first rally event, proving that switching from tarmac to gravel was just another day at the office.
