GRRL! SUMMARY:
- LIA BLOCK turned CLAIRE WILLIAMS into a passenger princess at DirtFish Rally School, taking the former F1 deputy team principal on a rally demo that left Williams legitimately “speechless” – and considering Williams’ media experience, that’s saying something. Block piloted a rear-wheel drive Subaru BRZ around the course, explaining her preference for the sideways action over faster all-wheel drive options.
- The 18-year-old American’s rally credentials are no joke – she became the youngest person ever to win a rally championship at 17, plus the first female to clinch that particular title. Now she’s tackling the steep learning curve of transitioning from dirt to tarmac in F1 Academy, admitting the single-seater world has been “quite hard” but embracing the challenge that comes with being the outsider.
- Block’s experience with the Williams Driver Academy has been a revelation, describing the F1 team environment as having a “family dynamic” that’s helped her navigate the completely foreign world of open-wheel racing. She’ll put her growing single-seater skills to the test next at the Canadian Grand Prix weekend in Montreal, where F1 Academy races June 13-15.
