• KATHERINE LEGGE has received thousands of death threats and hateful messages since entering NASCAR in March, including direct messages telling her to ‘hang herself’ and ‘swallow a shotgun.’ As the only female driver currently on the circuit, she believes women in male-dominated sports face worse abuse because ‘we stick out more’ and are often dismissed as ‘gimmicks’ or ‘DEI hires.’
• Despite her thick skin approach of treating the harassment as ‘just noise,’ NASCAR is now providing security details for her upcoming races after law enforcement was alerted. Commissioner Steve Phelps condemned the behavior as ‘unacceptable’ and defended LEGGE’s credentials, noting she has ‘competed very successfully in all forms of motorsports’ including IndyCar, sports cars, and electric vehicles.
