GRRL! SUMMARY:
- Sixteen-year-old JOANNE CICONTE earned her F1 Academy spot after impressive runs in Central European Zone F4, Spanish F4, and Formula Winter Series, positioning herself to become Australia’s first female F1 driver. The Melbourne teenager’s journey started at nine when she convinced her dad to let her try karting after watching her brother race, instantly falling in love with the speed and competition.
- Fellow Melbourne racer AIVA ANAGNOSTIADIS, 17, joins CICONTE in the all-women F1 Academy program launched by Susie Wolff in 2023. Both teenagers will make their debut at Shanghai International Circuit on March 21, representing Australia in a series designed to develop women drivers and create pathways to higher levels of motorsport competition.
- Rally champion MOLLY TAYLOR praised both drivers, emphasizing how difficult it is to secure international motorsport opportunities and budgets. Taylor, who won the Australian Rally Championship and Extreme E World Championship, highlighted the importance of visibility – when young girls see women competing at elite levels, it creates belief that such pathways are possible for them too.
