FULL BIO: Salva Marjan
Salva Marjan is a trailblazing Indian motorsports racer who became the first woman from Kerala to join the Formula 1 Academy, breaking barriers in a male-dominated sport with determination and raw speed.
EARLY YEARS
Born on July 24, 1999, in Perambra, Kozhikode, Kerala, India, Salva grew up in a middle-class family that would prove instrumental in defying every societal expectation about what girls should and shouldn’t do. Her parents—bless them—had the audacity to treat their daughter’s racing dreams with the same seriousness they would have given a son’s, even when neighbors and extended family questioned their sanity. Part of her childhood was spent in Bahrain, which gave her early exposure to a broader motorsports culture that would fuel her ambitions. It was her father who first brought home remote-controlled cars, unknowingly lighting the fuse on what would become an unstoppable passion for speed and control. While other kids were playing house, Salva was mastering the art of making tiny cars go fast—a skill that would translate beautifully to the real thing years later.
OTHER INTERESTS
Salva earned a business management degree, which proved to be more than just academic achievement—it became survival training for navigating the financial labyrinth of professional racing. Her early fascination with remote-controlled cars evolved into a deeper understanding of automotive mechanics and control, though specific details about other hobbies remain private.
EARLY SUCCESS
At 18, when most people are figuring out what to major in, Salva was already strapping herself into Formula LGB cars in India, beginning her professional racing career in 2018. She quickly progressed through the ranks, competing in the F4 Indian Championship before making the leap to the F4 UAE Championship in 2023. The transition wasn’t without its bruises—literally and figuratively. She faced crashes, spins, and results so disappointing they nearly convinced her to hang up her helmet. But here’s the thing about Salva: she doesn’t quit. Instead, she treated every setback as expensive education, completing an impressive 119 out of 150 laps in F4 series competition and proving she had both the skill and the stomach for the sport’s unforgiving demands.
NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENTS
- 2018: Began professional racing career with Formula LGB in India[1].
- 2023: Competed in F4 UAE Championship[1].
- 2025: Selected as first woman from Kerala for Formula 1 Academy[1][2].
INSPIRATIONS
Salva’s racing heroes read like a greatest hits list of motorsports: Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton, and Ken Block. “Watching racers like Ken Block was like watching art in motion,” she’s said, and you can hear the reverence in her voice when she talks about these legends who made the impossible look routine. Her parents remain her biggest inspiration, having never imposed limits based on her gender—a radical act in a society that still raises eyebrows at women who choose speed over convention.
REPUTATION
In India’s motorsports circles, Salva has earned respect not just for breaking gender barriers, but for her genuine racecraft and physical endurance. She’s brutally honest about the sport’s demands: “Inside a racing car, the temperature is often 40°C… braking pressure required in curves is 60 to 100 kg… one loses around 4 kg of body weight during races.” This isn’t someone playing at being a race car driver—she’s the real deal, earning recognition as one of India’s fastest-rising motorsports stars through pure grit and undeniable talent. Media coverage consistently highlights her determination and potential to inspire a new generation of female racers, positioning her as both athlete and role model.
FUTURE GOALS/PLANS
Currently training in the United Arab Emirates for the 2025 Formula 1 Academy season, Salva has her sights set firmly on the ultimate prize: representing India on the Formula 1 main stage. Her goals extend beyond personal achievement—she’s determined to inspire girls across India to pursue motorsports, proving that speed knows no gender. The 2025 F1 Academy represents not just her next career step, but potentially the launchpad for Indian women’s presence in global motorsports.
