GRRL! SUMMARY:
- CARRIE SCHREINER’s birthday weekend at Spielberg started with promise as teammate Alain Valente delivered the team’s best qualifying of the season in fifth place, but success bred punishment when race officials slapped their Audi with an extra 15kg of BoP ballast for being too competitive. The penalty perfectly encapsulates the catch-22 facing teams that dare to challenge the established order – perform well and get handicapped for your trouble.
- Race one saw SCHREINER methodically work her way forward after Valente’s difficult opening stint, but the new ballast weight became painfully obvious as she found herself quick through corners yet unable to capitalize on straights. She finished fifth in class, stuck behind a Mustang that could simply power away despite poor corner exits – a frustrating display of how artificial performance balancing can neutralize genuine pace and racecraft.
- The birthday celebration turned into a nightmare in race two when a desperate Lamborghini driver, unable to find a clean pass, decided contact was the answer and punted SCHREINER around at Turn 3. The resulting three-lap penalty was laughably inadequate – nowhere near enough to drop the Lamborghini behind the damaged Audi it had torpedoed. Meanwhile, Valente’s recovery drive from the back showcased the pace they had all weekend, closing dramatically on the field before running out of laps.
