• KATHERINE LEGGE reached a career milestone by completing her first NASCAR Cup Series race at Mexico City’s Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez last Sunday. The 44-year-old veteran has been making selective starts in both Cup and Xfinity Series this year as she works toward her ultimate goal of securing a full-time Cup Series ride.
• The transition from part-time to full-time NASCAR competition presents unique challenges that LEGGE is learning to navigate. She explained how the constant seat time that full-time drivers get creates an almost subconscious advantage: “These guys are driving this car every weekend, so that sort of subconscious frame of reference that they don’t even know that they have is worth so much.”
• While laser-focused on NASCAR success, LEGGE isn’t abandoning her road racing roots entirely. She’s planning returns to both the Indianapolis 500 and the 24 Hours of Daytona, acknowledging her proven strength in sports car racing while working to master stock car competition. “Daytona and sports car racing is what I’m good at,” she noted, “I want to be as good at this as I was at that.”
