LAURA VAN DEN HENGEL Delivers Clean GT3 Debut at Mugello 12H for Iron Dames

March 25, 2025

GRRL! SUMMARY:

  • LAURA VAN DEN HENGEL answered a last-minute call-up for her GT3 debut at the Mugello 12H, joining the “Supported by Iron Dames” program as their only GT racer. With barely 24 hours notice and just 20 practice laps under her belt, she tackled one of Europe’s most demanding circuits alongside platinum-rated Klaus Bachler and an elite driver lineup in the #73 Porsche 911 GT3 R.
  • Despite brutal weather conditions that caught out even experienced drivers, VAN DEN HENGEL delivered consistent, clean performances throughout both race segments. She steadily improved her pace from initial 2:10s laps in treacherous wet conditions to posting 1:52s times on slicks by race end, demonstrating her adaptability and race craft while gaining invaluable endurance racing experience.
  • The team showed genuine pace early on, qualifying third in GT3 ProAm class and leading the race before a crash setback. VAN DEN HENGEL’s mistake-free driving helped secure a fifth-place class finish, proving she belongs at this level. Her bronze driver rating makes her a strategic asset in sports car racing, and this debut sets up her full GT Cup Open Europe campaign with newly formed Burgers Motorsport by HWM.
