GRRL! SUMMARY:

  • LIANE LANGLOIS just rewrote the history books, becoming the first Canadian woman to set an official FIM motorcycle land speed world record. At 50 years old, she blasted through the Bonneville Salt Flats at 219 km/h on a 2295cc Triumph Rocket with a sidecar – a machine pushing 275 horsepower that’s “definitely not for the faint of heart.” Despite admitting she felt nervous for the first time in her riding career due to brutal track conditions, she delivered when it mattered most.
  • The conditions at Bonneville were absolutely unforgiving – wet, slippery salt that was “all chewed up” from weather problems throughout the week. But LANGLOIS wasn’t backing down from her shot at greatness. She had to nail two runs in opposite directions, with speeds averaged between the three- and four-mile marks, all while making herself as aerodynamically small as possible on a bike bigger than most car engines. Talk about pressure performance.
  • What makes this even better? LANGLOIS describes herself as “the smallest girl on the loudest bike” – and she’s absolutely owning that identity while smashing barriers. As president and founder of the Alberta Motorcycle Safety Society, she’s not just setting records; she’s building the infrastructure for the next generation. Her goal is clear: inspire more women to get involved in land speed racing and show them what’s possible when you refuse to let anyone else set your limits.
