GRRL! SUMMARY:
- Three powerhouse athletes crossed sports boundaries when tennis players NASTASJA SCHUNK and MARIELLA THAMM (both Porsche Talent Team members) met up with MICHELLE GATTING, the Danish driver who made WEC history with Iron Dames’ first all-female class win at Bahrain. The unusual meetup at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix proved that elite athletes speak a universal language of determination and skill.
- GATTING surprised everyone by holding her own on the tennis court, earning props from 2021 Wimbledon girls’ runner-up SCHUNK who admitted she “didn’t expect” the motorsport star to play so well. Meanwhile, THAMM wasn’t shocked at all, noting “She’s an athlete. You can see it right away.” The trio then toured Porsche’s Zuffenhausen facility, where GATTING got starry-eyed over the 2015 WEC championship-winning 919 Hybrid.
- When it came to the driving challenge in a Porsche Macan Turbo, GATTING predictably dominated the course – after all, she’s been wheeling that pink 911 GT3 R across four major endurance series as an official Porsche contracted driver. But the tennis players showed serious potential behind the wheel, earning praise from GATTING who quipped their “foot on the accelerator is definitely stronger than my hand on the racket.”
