FULL BIO: Bridget Burgess
Bridget Burgess is an Australian-American stock car racer who traded off-road dirt for asphalt ovals, carving her own path in NASCAR’s feeder series while building a family racing dynasty with her former racer mother as crew chief.
EARLY YEARS
Born December 26, 2001, in Australia, Bridget moved to the United States with her parents Adam and Sarah Burgess when she was seven years old, eventually settling in Tooele, Utah. Her mother Sarah was a former off-road and drifting racer who would later become Bridget’s crew chief, while her father Adam took on spotting duties. Growing up in this racing-obsessed household meant Bridget was wrenching on cars before most kids could properly tie their shoes. At 16, she made her declaration of independence: “I want to race,” she told her parents, launching what would become BMI Racing, their family-operated team.
OTHER INTERESTS
While Bridget’s life revolves around racing, she maintains a fitness regimen inspired by NASCAR legends like Mark Martin, understanding that physical conditioning is crucial for competing at the highest levels of stock car racing.
EARLY SUCCESS
Bridget started her racing career at 16 in the Lucas Oil Off-Road series alongside her mother, but quickly realized her future lay on asphalt, not dirt. In 2019, she made her stock car debut with part-time runs in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West, managing an 11th-place finish at Roseville and 12th at Meridian despite wrestling with unreliable rented equipment. Her transition to the ARCA Menards Series West in 2020 showed immediate promise with a 7th-place finish at Las Vegas, though mechanical gremlins—including a broken rear gear—reminded her that racing success requires equal parts speed and reliability.
NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENTS
- 2020: 7th place finish at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in ARCA Menards Series West debut season.
- 2021: Multiple top-10 finishes including 8th at Sonoma Raceway and 9th at Colorado National Speedway.
- 2022: Four top-10 finishes in ARCA Menards Series West, with best result of 7th at Portland International Raceway.
- 2022: 7th place in ARCA Menards Series West championship standings.
- 2022: Made debut in main ARCA Menards Series with 23rd-place finish at Phoenix Raceway.
INSPIRATIONS
While her mother Sarah provides the primary mentorship and mechanical expertise, Bridget draws inspiration from Alan Kulwicki’s legendary work ethic and hands-on approach to racing. Like the 1992 NASCAR Cup Series champion, she believes in personally working on her own car and understanding every mechanical detail. “They’ve taught me so much outside of racing about being dedicated and committed to a job that you love. We’re a very competitive family,” she says of her parents’ influence.
REPUTATION
Industry insiders view Bridget as a promising young talent with old-school values, earning comparisons to Kulwicki for her dedication to understanding every aspect of her racing operation. Her mother Sarah notes that Bridget’s move to asphalt racing wasn’t following in anyone’s footsteps: “That was her taking her own lead and making that opportunity for herself.” The racing community respects the Burgess family’s all-hands-on-deck approach, with Sarah serving as crew chief and car owner while Adam handles spotting duties. Media coverage consistently highlights her work ethic and potential, positioning her as a role model for female drivers climbing the NASCAR ladder.
FUTURE GOALS/PLANS
Bridget continues preparing for expanded NASCAR opportunities, maintaining her intensive fitness regimen and mechanical skills development. While specific 2025 plans remain unannounced, her ultimate goal is reaching full-time NASCAR Cup Series competition, following the path blazed by drivers who combined talent, determination, and family support to reach stock car racing’s highest level.
