Carmen's bio:

Carmen Kraav is an Estonian racing driver who’s been turning heads in European motorsport since her karting days, proving that speed and determination don’t discriminate by gender—even if the paddock sometimes does.

EARLY YEARS

Born in Estonia, Kraav started her motorsport journey in karting, where she quickly established herself as a force to be reckoned with. At just 15 years old, she was already competing with the kind of pace and aggression that made grown men nervous. Her early karting career laid the foundation for what would become a steady climb through European racing’s notoriously male-dominated ladder.

OTHER INTERESTS

Information about Kraav’s interests outside of racing isn’t readily available, but given the demanding nature of her racing schedule—juggling multiple series, endurance racing, and representing Estonia internationally—it’s safe to say her calendar doesn’t leave much room for casual hobbies. She’s clearly committed to the craft.

EARLY SUCCESS

The trajectory started gaining serious momentum when Kraav transitioned from karts to tin-tops. In 2021, she joined Krauman Motors to compete in the Baltic Touring Car Championship (BaTCC) BMW 325 CUP class, driving for EST1 Racing. The same year, her talent was officially recognized when the Estonian Autosport Association awarded her the title of best female motorsport athlete—a nice acknowledgment, though she’d probably prefer to just be called fast.

By 16, she was being described as “the inspiration for young talents” and featured in videos highlighting her as a proper example of women in motorsport. That year, she also competed in the Nankang Endurance Academy 2-hour races, racking up experience in longer-format competition that would prove invaluable later.

In 2022, Kraav represented Estonia at the FIA Motorsport Games in the Karting Senior category, finishing an impressive seventh among 31 of the world’s top karting talents. It was a gutsy performance on an international stage, proving she could mix it up with the best.

NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENTS

  • 2021: Named best female motorsport athlete by the Estonian Autosport Association[1].
  • 2021: Competed in BaTCC BMW 325 CUP with Krauman Motors and EST1 Racing[2].
  • 2022: Finished P7 in FIA Motorsport Games Karting Senior final among 31 competitors[3].
  • 2022: Won Estonian Championship title with DHR Estonia, also securing first place in team rankings[4].
  • 2022: Led the Ladies category in BaTCC competition[5].
  • 2023: Competed in BMW M2 Cup Germany, finishing 13th overall with 55.5 points[6].
  • 2023: Scored her highest single-weekend points haul (13 points) at Lausitzring in BMW M2 Cup[7].
  • 2023: Made NLS (Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie) debut with GirlsOnly Talent Pool in a BMW 330i alongside Elena Egger and Julia Ponkratz, finishing P9 in class[8].
  • 2025: Currently competing in Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie[9].

INSPIRATIONS

While Kraav hasn’t publicly detailed her racing heroes or inspirations, she’s become an inspiration herself—particularly for young women considering motorsport. The fact that she’s consistently described as a role model for #womeninmotorsport suggests she’s more focused on paving the way forward than looking back.

REPUTATION

Kraav has built a reputation as a fierce, determined competitor who refuses to be pigeonholed. Described as having “the speed and determination to be very fast around every race track,” she’s not content to be the token female entry—she’s there to race, and race hard. Her willingness to tackle everything from sprint races to endurance events, from one-make BMW cups to multi-class Nürburgring challenges, demonstrates versatility that many drivers twice her age haven’t managed.

She’s particularly known for her ability to fight through the field. During the 2023 BMW M2 Cup, she consistently recovered from difficult qualifying sessions to deliver solid race results, showcasing the kind of racecraft that comes from years of wheel-to-wheel karting battles. At Lausitzring, she clawed her way to P11 after a tough qualifying, the kind of performance that doesn’t always make headlines but earns respect in the paddock.

Her participation in all-female line-ups, particularly with the GirlsOnly Talent Pool initiative at the Nürburgring, has also positioned her as part of a growing movement proving that women can handle the physical and mental demands of endurance racing on one of the world’s most challenging circuits. When the team fielded a BMW 330i in the VT2 RWD class with Egger and Ponkratz, they finished inside the top ten in class—no small feat for a debut.

FUTURE GOALS/PLANS

Kraav continues to compete in the 2025 Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie, tackling the legendary Nordschleife and Grand Prix circuit combination. The NLS remains one of motorsport’s best proving grounds, attracting manufacturers, professional teams, and ambitious young drivers looking to make their mark. For someone who started racing BMWs in the Baltics just a few years ago, now regularly competing on the Green Hell represents serious progression—and likely just the beginning of bigger plans to come.
