They said I couldn’t so that’s why I did
Emily Miller is a trailblazing off-road racer, instructor, and founder of the Rebelle Rally, America’s first women’s off-road navigation competition that has revolutionized the motorsports landscape for female competitors.
EARLY YEARS
Growing up in a family that valued travel, architecture, and automobiles, Emily developed a natural affinity for exploration and adventure[1]. Though not initially drawn to motorsports, her background in endurance sports like skiing and snowboarding laid the foundation for her later racing career, building the mental and physical stamina that would serve her well in grueling off-road competitions.
EARLY SUCCESS
Miller’s racing journey began unexpectedly in her thirties when she met off-road legend Rod Hall while working as a consultant to bring action sports to Reno, Nevada[1]. Impressed by her tenacity, Hall invited her to help restart the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame and participate in Ford training programs, putting her behind the wheel for the first time[1]. Her natural talent quickly emerged as she made history by becoming the first woman to solo drive the Vegas to Reno race—America’s longest off-road challenge—securing a podium finish in the stock class[3][5].
NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENTS
- 2009: Represented the only US team in the Rallye Aïcha des Gazelles in Morocco[2].
- 2011: Achieved second place finish in the Rallye Aïcha des Gazelles[2][5].
- 2016: Founded the Rebelle Rally, the first women’s off-road navigation rally raid in the United States[2][5].
- Various years: Secured multiple class wins in the punishing Baja 1000[5].
- Various years: First woman to solo the longest off-road race in the United States[5].
REPUTATION
Despite her petite 5-foot, 100-pound frame, Emily has proven that in motorsports, skill and determination triumph over physical size[1]. Her reputation extends beyond her racing prowess to her role as a mentor and advocate for women in motorsports. Through her marketing company, Soulside Network, Inc., she has coached over 4,000 individuals and organized more than 100 automotive events, earning recognition like the Women’s Automotive Alliance International “Spirit of Leadership” award[5]. The Rebelle Rally, her brainchild, has gained tremendous respect within the industry, attracting participation from major automakers and elevating the profile of women in off-road competition[2][3][4].
FUTURE GOALS/PLANS
Looking ahead to 2025, Emily remains focused on expanding the Rebelle Rally’s impact and reach, with a particular emphasis on Rebelle U 2025, which begins with an intensive navigation program in February[2]. Her ongoing mission includes creating more opportunities for women in motorsports, continuing her work as a brand ambassador for companies like BFGoodrich, and further developing educational initiatives that empower female drivers and navigators to excel in off-road competition[5].
