Erika Hoffmann went from rolling up to her first race in her family’s Hyundai Accent to making history with the first all-female 1-2 finish in Porsche Sprint Challenge North America—all in just a few years.

EARLY YEARS

Growing up in Barrhaven, a suburb of Ottawa, Canada, Hoffmann was a multi-sport athlete who loved motorsports from afar but never imagined she could actually race[1]. She assumed—like so many do—that racing required starting young, living in Europe, and having piles of money[2]. None of those applied to her. When she finally got her driver’s license, she decided to test herself anyway. She rolled up to her racing debut at a local autocross event in her family’s base-level Hyundai Accent, complete with roll-down windows[3]. OTHER INTERESTS

As a child, Hoffmann didn’t dream of being a race car driver—she wanted to be a CEO[4]. She was drawn to leadership, building something meaningful, and making an impact. That ambition would eventually find its outlet both on and off the track.

EARLY SUCCESS

In 2019, Hoffmann began driving at Calabogie Motorsports Park in Ontario[5]. She quickly qualified for the local series and came heartbreakingly close to winning the season championship, missing it by just one point[6]. She walked away with the Ottawa title anyway—not bad for someone who’d barely been behind the wheel. But the real breakthrough came after COVID, when she entered the Formula Woman International Driver Search, a multi-round competition that drew 1,000 drivers from 35 countries[7]. Hoffmann had almost no racing experience compared to the field. Against all odds, she won the entire competition, taking 1st place overall[8].
