Heather's full bio:
Heather “The Heat” Hadley is a Northern California racer who turned a childhood go-kart outing into a full-blown racing career, racking up championships in Legend Cars before stepping up to the Mazda MX-5 Cup—and she’s doing it all while double-majoring in finance and accounting.
EARLY YEARS
Born and raised in Vallejo, California—the same hometown that produced NASCAR legend Jeff Gordon—Hadley grew up trying her hand at various sports in the suburbs north of San Francisco. At nine years old, she tagged along to an indoor karting facility called Driven Raceway, and something clicked. She wasn’t content just keeping up; she wanted to win. After getting passed by other drivers during her first session, she told her father, Damon Hadley, that she didn’t want to leave. That day launched what would become an obsession. Over the years at Driven Raceway, she’d log 503 races with a jaw-dropping 100% winning average—a stat that sounds too good to be true but apparently isn’t.
OTHER INTERESTS
Hadley isn’t just about racing. She attended Redwood High School in Marin before transferring to Tamiscal High School in Larkspur, an alternative school that gave her more flexibility to chase her racing ambitions. While balancing school and racing, she also played softball at Redwood High. Her commitment to education didn’t end with high school graduation—she’s currently pursuing a double major in finance and accounting at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She’s someone who thrives on staying busy and learning new things, traits that serve her well both on and off the track.
EARLY SUCCESS
At 14, Hadley transitioned from karting to Legend Cars, a move that proved to be a defining moment in her career. By 17, she was already an eight-year racing veteran with seven championship trophies to her name. Her breakout moment came when she captured the Silver State Winter Series Semi-Pro Championship in Las Vegas, becoming the first female driver to win the title. She dominated the series with four wins and was also named Top Rookie. At 17, she was setting track records and collecting hardware at a pace that would make veterans jealous. She set the current track record at Hallett Motor Racing Circuit for INEX U.S. Legend Cars and became a five-time U.S. Legend Cars Points Champion. By 2022, she finished third in the INEX Semi-Pro Road Course Championship and was the recipient of the Women’s Initiative Award.

INSPIRATIONS
Growing up in Jeff Gordon’s hometown, Hadley became a fan of NASCAR and developed a deep appreciation for the sport’s competitive culture. Her entry into the Mazda MX-5 Cup series brought her face-to-face with one of her heroes: British racing driver Katherine Legge. “I have always looked up to her,” Hadley said. “It was a dream come true.” Meeting Legge wasn’t just a fan moment—it was validation that women belong in professional racing, and Hadley has carried that inspiration with her ever since.
REPUTATION
Hadley has earned her nickname “The Heat” through sheer determination and a relentless work ethic. Her father, Damon, has been her biggest cheerleader, often bragging about her accomplishments—though she’s usually too busy preparing for the next race to bask in the glory. She’s known as a well-rounded driver who’s willing to become a “Jill of all trades” to improve her skills. While her professional racing stats show she’s still chasing that elusive first win in the MX-5 Cup (36 races started, no wins yet as of recent data), she’s respected for her consistency, her ability to learn quickly, and her refusal to back down from a challenge. She’s also a 2024 Shift Up Now Athlete and was a grant recipient from the Shift Up Now Foundation in 2023, recognizing her potential and dedication to the sport.
FUTURE GOALS/PLANS
Hadley’s ultimate goal is to become a professional IMSA driver, and she’s methodically building the resume to get there. For the 2025 season, she’s competing with Hendricks Motorsports in the Mazda MX-5 Cup, with races scheduled at iconic tracks including Barber Motorsports Park in May and Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in June. She’s balancing her racing career with finishing her degree, a testament to her belief that education and motorsports can—and should—coexist. She’s determined to prove that women can compete at the highest levels of racing, and if her trajectory so far is any indication, it’s only a matter of time before she breaks through.
