I’m a very big Danica Patrick fan. She’s like my idol. She’s a girl and she races and she shows that girls can do it, too.

Karsyn's full bio:
Karsyn Elledge is a third-generation racer from North Carolina who has competed in USAC midgets, sprint cars, and stock cars while carrying one of NASCAR’s most legendary last names—and determined to make her own.
EARLY YEARS
Born December 12, 2000, in Mooresville, North Carolina, Karsyn Elledge grew up in racing royalty without even trying. Her mother is Kelley Earnhardt Miller, daughter of the late Dale Earnhardt Sr., which makes Dale Earnhardt Jr. her uncle and Kerry Earnhardt her other uncle. Racing wasn’t just the family business—it was basically the family religion.
She started racing go-karts at age 12, the same year her famous uncle Dale Jr. gave her the green light to start competing. By 13, she was already making waves. In 2013, she won the Millbridge Speedway Kartplex Championship and picked up a feature win at GoPro Motorplex. The talent was obvious early, even if the pressure of that last name loomed large.
Despite the Earnhardt legacy, Karsyn’s path wasn’t a straight shot into stock cars. She gravitated toward dirt racing—specifically USAC midgets and sprint cars—which meant she’d be doing her learning on some of the toughest, most unforgiving tracks in the country. It was a choice that showed guts, because dirt racing doesn’t care about your last name. It’ll humble you real quick.
OTHER INTERESTS
When she wasn’t turning laps, Karsyn was living a surprisingly normal college life. She attended Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) and was a cheerleader for the IUPUI Jaguars during the 2018-19 season. Yes, you read that right—she went from flipping sprint cars to doing actual flips on the sidelines. She graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in Spring 2024 with a degree in business management, proving she’s got plans beyond the racetrack.
In 2022, she appeared on the ABC reality show “Claim to Fame,” where contestants with famous relatives tried to keep their identities secret. Spoiler alert: her claim to fame was being related to Dale Earnhardt Jr., and she lasted several episodes before being eliminated. It was a fun detour, but racing was always the main event.
EARLY SUCCESS
After karting, Elledge jumped into legends cars and late models before making the leap to USAC in 2018. She competed in the 2018 Keith Kunz Motorsports Giveback Classic and ran select USAC midget races. In 2019, she committed to a full season of USAC midget racing with TMC Motorsports as her primary sponsor, a bold move that signaled she was serious about her dirt racing career.
The transition wasn’t easy. USAC racing is fast, physical, and wildly competitive, and Karsyn had her share of tough nights, including a nasty flip at Meeker, Oklahoma. But she kept at it, learning the craft and earning respect from crews and competitors who didn’t care about her famous family—they cared whether she could wheel a midget.
She also became a regular at the Chili Bowl Nationals, the Super Bowl of midget racing held every January in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It’s a grueling week of racing where the best drivers in the world show up to battle on a tiny indoor dirt oval. Karsyn competed multiple times, including entries in 2021 and 2023 after briefly stepping away from racing.

INSPIRATIONS
Obviously, the Earnhardt family shaped everything. Her grandfather Dale Earnhardt Sr.—”The Intimidator”—set the standard, even though she never got to race alongside him. Her uncle Dale Jr. encouraged her to start racing and has been a mentor throughout her career. Her mother, Kelley Earnhardt Miller, co-owns JR Motorsports and has been a constant presence, balancing support with the reality checks only a mom can deliver.
But Karsyn has also worked to carve out her own identity. She’s been vocal about wanting to succeed on her own terms, not just as “Dale Jr.’s niece.” That drive has pushed her to compete in disciplines where the Earnhardt name doesn’t automatically open doors—dirt racing requires you to prove yourself every single night.
REPUTATION
Elledge has earned a reputation as a determined, no-nonsense competitor who isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty—literally. She’s known for her willingness to tackle some of the most challenging forms of racing rather than taking an easier path into stock cars. Fans and fellow drivers respect that she’s chosen the hard way, running USAC midgets and sprint cars where mistakes are costly and learning curves are steep.
She’s also become a voice in the racing community, appearing on podcasts like “Door Bumper Clear” and “Fast Lane Family,” where she’s opened up about the pressures of living up to a legendary name, dealing with imposter syndrome, and finding her own path in motorsports. Her candid conversations about independence, influence, and identity have resonated with young racers—especially women—trying to make it in a male-dominated sport.
In 2025, she was among the nominees for Most Popular Driver voting in the CARS Tour, a testament to her growing fanbase and presence in regional stock car racing. She’s built a following not just because of her last name, but because she’s relatable, real, and unafraid to show the unglamorous side of racing.
FUTURE GOALS/PLANS
Karsyn has been relatively quiet about specific plans for 2025 and beyond, but her recent return to racing after a brief retirement suggests she’s not done yet. With a business degree in hand and years of experience across multiple racing disciplines, she’s positioned to continue competing while also exploring opportunities in the business side of motorsports.
Whether she makes a serious push into stock car racing, continues grinding it out on dirt, or transitions into a role at JR Motorsports, one thing is clear: Karsyn Elledge is writing her own story, and she’s doing it her way.
