Katie's bio:

Katie Denver isn’t a racer—she’s the woman building the roadmap for the next generation of them. As F1 Academy’s Performance & Talent Development Manager, she’s steering female drivers toward their full potential in a sport that’s historically kept them on the sidelines.

EARLY YEARS

Denver’s foundation in sport science began at the University of Brighton, where she earned her BSc (Hons) in Sport and Exercise Science with a focus on Exercise and Health Science between 2008 and 2011. Her early career took her through roles at the Rugby Football Union and Motorsport UK before landing at Formula 1, where she’d eventually become instrumental in shaping opportunities for female racers. Unlike the drivers she now mentors, Denver’s path into motorsport wasn’t through karting or junior formulas—it was through understanding what makes athletes tick, how to develop them, and how to create systems that actually work.

OTHER INTERESTS

Information about Denver’s personal interests outside of motorsport development is not publicly available.

EARLY SUCCESS

Her transition from rugby to motorsport proved that talent development transcends individual sports. Denver’s expertise in performance management caught the attention of Formula 1, where she joined the organization and eventually carved out a role that didn’t previously exist in any meaningful way: dedicated driver development specifically for women in the F1 Academy series. Managing and directing driver development support across the 2024 grid, she created frameworks that gave female racers the same level of professional guidance their male counterparts had been receiving for decades.

NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENTS

  • 2024: Managed driver development support across the entire F1 Academy grid, establishing comprehensive development programs for female racers[1].
  • 2024: Collaborated with F1 Academy Managing Director Susie Wolff and Competition Manager Delphine Biscaye to launch the inaugural rookie test, identifying promising karters with the skills to advance to professional racing[2].
  • 2025: Launched F1 Academy’s first-of-its-kind Driver Development Guide, creating an essential roadmap to inform and empower young girls entering motorsport[3].
  • 2025: Led the landmark F1 Academy rookie test, delivering detailed performance assessments through More Than Equal, covering strength, cognition, and driver capabilities[4].

INSPIRATIONS

Denver has emphasized the importance of female role models in motorsport, noting that she was “really fortunate to have a great [woman] racing role model” during her career journey. Her work now focuses on ensuring the next generation doesn’t have to search as hard for theirs. Working alongside Susie Wolff, she’s part of a team actively dismantling the notion that female drivers need to hide their femininity to be taken seriously—partnerships with brands like Hello Kitty and Wella are deliberate choices to break down stereotypes while building up drivers.

REPUTATION

Within F1 Academy and the broader motorsport community, Denver is recognized as the architect behind the series’ driver development infrastructure. Her ability to assess talent, create structured pathways, and deliver actionable feedback has made her indispensable to the organization’s mission. She’s known for being methodical and comprehensive—drivers working with her receive detailed insights into their performance, from physical conditioning to cognitive processing. Her approach treats driver development as the serious, multifaceted discipline it is, rather than a checkbox exercise. As the Performance & Talent Development Manager, she’s not just coaching individual drivers; she’s building an entire system designed to funnel female talent from karting all the way to Formula 1.

FUTURE GOALS/PLANS

Denver continues her work identifying and preparing new drivers for F1 Academy, with ongoing initiatives focused on expanding the talent pipeline from grassroots karting through professional racing series. Her role includes overseeing the Driver Development Hub and continuing to refine the frameworks that support female racers as they navigate the notoriously difficult path to motorsport’s upper levels. The goal isn’t just to create opportunities for a few exceptional drivers—it’s to fundamentally change how female talent is identified, developed, and advanced in racing. Beyond 2025, her work aims to ensure that the pathway from karting to Formula 1 includes female drivers not as anomalies, but as expected participants.
