Kumi Sato is a rising Japanese motorsports talent who has progressed from local karting to competing in prestigious Japanese racing series like Super GT.

EARLY YEARS

Born in Tokyo, Japan, Kumi grew up in a middle-class family deeply connected to automotive culture. Her father, Hiroshi Sato, worked as an automotive engineer and participated in amateur rally racing, often bringing young Kumi to local events. By age 8, she had transitioned from bicycle riding to karting sessions at nearby circuits, using a second-hand kart her father restored. Weekends were spent at tracks like Fuji Speedway, where she was “mesmerized by the speed and precision” of drivers.

EARLY SUCCESS

Sato made her professional racing debut in 2020 in the F4 Japanese Championship, where she secured a best finish of 5th place at Okayama International Circuit. This initial success paved the way for her entry into the more competitive Super GT Series the following year.

NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENTS

2020: Debuted in the F4 Japanese Championship with a best finish of 5th place at Okayama International Circuit.
2021: Competed in the Super GT Series GT300 class with Team Upgarage.
2022: Achieved her first Super GT podium with a 3rd-place finish at Fuji Speedway on August 14.
