Liane Langlois is the Edmonton-based motorcycle racer who became the first Canadian woman to set an official FIM Land Speed World Record, hitting 146.799 mph on the Bonneville Salt Flats in 2025 while simultaneously building one of the most respected motorcycle safety organizations in the country.

EARLY YEARS

Her love affair with motorcycles started young, ripping around on small bikes on her uncle’s land in southern Saskatchewan. Those dusty prairie rides planted a seed that would grow into a full-blown obsession—one that followed her when she moved to Edmonton in late 2001[1]. By day, she worked her way up from finance roles to HR management at a small international IT company, constantly adding skills and evolving professionally[2]. But it was what she did on two wheels that would eventually write her name into the record books.

OTHER INTERESTS

Beyond setting speed records, Langlois is the founder and president of the Alberta Motorcycle Safety Society, an organization born from her vision to make roads safer for riders[3]. She’s also the force behind the Kootenay Rat Raid, an annual motorcycle event in British Columbia that brings together riders who share her passion for the open road[4]. She hosts the “Think Bike” podcast, where she digs into motorcycle safety, shares riding experiences, and champions the role of women in the motorcycle community[5]. Her work earned recognition from the City of Edmonton, which presented AMSS with an award for their safety initiatives[6].

EARLY SUCCESS

In 2014, Langlois got her first taste of the Bonneville Salt Flats when her best friend—a fellow Fez Monkey’s member—let her race a 2002 Triumph Bonneville[7]. The experience was intoxicating. She immediately knew she needed her own machine built for speed. After racking up 100,000 kilometers on a Triumph Speedmaster that she sold in early 2020, she kept her Triumph Daytona 955i in the stable and added a 2014 Matte Pacific bike to her collection[8]. Her garage became a rotating cast of British machines, each one serving a different purpose—cruising, zipping, or chasing records.

NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENTS

  • 2014: Made her debut at the Bonneville Salt Flats, racing a friend’s Triumph Bonneville[7].
  • Pre-2025: Set two AMA National Land Speed Records at 127 mph and 137 mph, becoming the first Canadian woman to achieve this in motorcycle land speed racing[9].
  • 2025: Became the first Canadian woman—and fourth Canadian overall—to set an official FIM Land Speed World Record, hitting 136 mph on a Triumph 2300cc sidecar and later achieving a top speed of 146.799 mph (236.251 km/h) over the timed kilometer at the Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials[10][11][12].
  • 2025: Set her FIM record using Carpenter Racing’s engine optimization expertise, which maximized airflow and power output on her machine[13].

REPUTATION

At fifty years old when she set her FIM World Record, Langlois has become a force in the Canadian motorcycle community—not just for her speed, but for her leadership[14]. As president of the Alberta Motorcycle Safety Society, she’s known as a fearless advocate for rider education and safety[15]. Her dual identity as both record-breaker and safety champion gives her credibility on both sides of the throttle. She’s the rider who’ll push a machine to 146 mph on the salt flats, then turn around and teach novices about responsible riding. That combination of adrenaline and accountability has made her a trusted voice, whether she’s speaking to new riders, advocating for policy changes, or representing Canada on the world stage of land speed racing.
