FULL BIO: Liane Langlois
Liane Langlois is a Canadian land speed racer and motorcycle safety advocate who set an FIM Motorcycle Land Speed World Record at Bonneville Salt Flats in 2019. The Alberta-based HR manager has become a respected leader in Canada’s motorcycle community through her dual role as record-setting racer and safety crusader.
EARLY YEARS
Born around 1968-1969, Liane grew up in southern Saskatchewan where her love affair with motorcycles began on her uncle’s land. Those early days riding small bikes across rural terrain planted the seeds for what would become a lifelong passion. For years, she admired Triumph motorcycles from the sidelines, attending motorcycle shows and dreaming of owning her own bike—particularly coveting the sleek lines of Triumph Speedmaster models. It wasn’t until 2007, well into her adult years, that she finally made the leap from passenger to pilot, purchasing her first motorcycle and stepping into the riding community she’d observed for so long.
OTHER INTERESTS
Beyond racing, Liane serves as President of the Alberta Motorcycle Safety Society (AMSS), a province-wide advocacy group focused on motorcycle safety and education. Her leadership role reflects a deep commitment to improving relations between motorcyclists and other road users while building stronger riding communities. She actively participates in motorcycle events across diverse riding communities throughout Alberta, combining her passion for the sport with meaningful community engagement.
EARLY SUCCESS
Liane’s transition from motorcycle enthusiast to serious racer came relatively late in life but with impressive determination. In 2014, at approximately age 45, she made her debut at the prestigious Bonneville Salt Flats, competing on a friend’s motorcycle. This first taste of high-profile racing at one of motorsport’s most legendary venues marked the beginning of her competitive career and demonstrated her willingness to push boundaries well beyond the typical age when racers begin their careers.
NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENTS
- 2014: Competed at Bonneville Salt Flats for the first time on a friend’s motorcycle[1].
- 2019: Set FIM Motorcycle Land Speed World Record at Bonneville Salt Flats, achieving 136.331 mph (219.404 km/h) over a timed kilometer riding a 2012 JKR Powersports 2295cc Triumph Rocket 111 Roadster with weighted sidecar[2].
INSPIRATIONS
Her earliest inspiration came from family—specifically those formative experiences riding small bikes on her uncle’s land in Saskatchewan. The rural setting and family encouragement provided the foundation for her motorcycle passion. Her long-standing admiration for Triumph motorcycles, particularly the Speedmaster models she coveted for years before owning her first bike, also shaped her racing preferences and eventually led to her record-setting run on a Triumph at Bonneville.
REPUTATION
Liane is recognized as a respected leader and matriarch figure in Alberta’s motorcycle community, earning particular acclaim for her work in rider safety and community building. Her approach to leadership emphasizes collaboration and mutual support, as evidenced by her philosophy: “Things like this where we all just get together and support each other and, you know, just show up… It all threads through the common passion of riding.” Media coverage consistently portrays her with respect for both her racing accomplishments and her advocacy work, with no known controversies or disputes marking her career.
FUTURE GOALS/PLANS
As of 2019, Liane remained actively involved in racing at Bonneville and continued her presidency of the Alberta Motorcycle Safety Society. However, specific racing schedules, sponsor relationships, or concrete plans for 2025 and beyond have not been publicly documented.
