FULL BIO: Maddie Colleran
At just 15, Maddie Colleran is already making waves as one of the youngest female drivers in American open-wheel racing, representing a new generation breaking barriers in the USF Juniors series.
EARLY YEARS
Born on September 12, 2009, in Hunting Valley, Ohio—a well-heeled suburb that’s more country club than carburetor—Maddie discovered her need for speed early. While most kids her age were figuring out algebra, she was already calculating racing lines on karting tracks. After spending two years honing her skills in karting, specifically in the Briggs 206 category starting in 2023, Colleran made the leap to cars through the Lucas Oil School of Racing. Talk about fast-tracking your way out of childhood.
OTHER INTERESTS
Like many young racers who live and breathe motorsports, Maddie keeps her cards close to her chest when it comes to life outside the cockpit. What we do know is that racing appears to consume most of her bandwidth—and honestly, when you’re 15 and already competing professionally, there’s probably not much time for typical teenage drama anyway.
EARLY SUCCESS
Colleran’s progression from karts to cars reads like a racing fairy tale—if fairy tales involved G-forces and tire compounds. After just two years of karting experience, she caught the attention of Zanella Racing, who signed her for their 2025 USF Juniors campaign. While her statistics sheet might still be waiting for that first win, podium, or pole position, landing a seat with a professional team at 15 is no small feat. She’s been competing at prestigious venues like Mid-Ohio during IndyCar and IMSA race weekends, sharing the same asphalt as some of racing’s biggest names.
NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENTS
- 2023: Began competitive karting in Briggs 206 category.
- 2025: Signed with Zanella Racing for USF Juniors series, becoming part of record female driver representation in USF Pro Championships.
- 2025: Competed at Mid-Ohio during IndyCar and IMSA race weekends.
INSPIRATIONS
Maddie has kept her racing heroes and motivations under wraps, letting her driving do the talking instead of name-dropping influences. Sometimes the most powerful inspiration is simply seeing an open road ahead—or in her case, an open track.
REPUTATION
In a sport where being a teenage female driver still turns heads, Colleran is part of a historic moment in American open-wheel racing. She’s contributing to record numbers of female drivers in the USF Pro Championships alongside Kaylee Countryman and Emma Scarbrough, proving that 2025 might be remembered as the year when “girls can’t drive” became “girls are driving—fast.” Media coverage consistently highlights her as promising young female talent, and so far, she’s managed to stay controversy-free while representing the next generation of barrier-breaking drivers.
FUTURE GOALS/PLANS
As a rookie in the USF Juniors series with Zanella Racing, Maddie is focused on learning, improving, and making her mark in 2025. While she hasn’t publicly outlined long-term career aspirations, at 15, she has plenty of time to climb the racing ladder. Her current trajectory suggests she’s serious about building a professional racing career, though like many young drivers, she’s probably taking it one season—and one clean pass—at a time.
