FULL BIO: Margaret Sharron
Margaret Sharron proves that motorsports dreams don’t have an expiration date—she launched her rally career at 46 and became one of the fastest women ever up Mount Washington in a Subaru. This late-blooming speed demon has turned the New England and Canadian rally scenes into her personal playground, all while balancing family life and showing the boys how it’s done.
EARLY YEARS
Born in 1970, Margaret grew up in a household without television, spending her time four-wheeling through the woods rather than watching racing on screen. This outdoor upbringing would prove perfect preparation for rally racing, though motorsports wasn’t on her radar during childhood. She married Emmanuel Cecchet, who would later become both her racing partner and competition, and they raised children together in what appears to be the Northeastern North America region.
OTHER INTERESTS
Beyond rally racing, Margaret has channeled her passion for the sport into media creation, co-producing the YouTube series “Flat Over Crest” that documents the grassroots rally experience. She’s become an ambassador for women in motorsports, actively promoting female participation through interviews and community outreach.
EARLY SUCCESS
Margaret’s racing journey began with autocross in a Corvette C4—a choice she later called “a big mistake” because it led to her rally addiction. After swapping cars with a rallycross driver and trying stage rally, she was immediately hooked. She started with Black River Stages in 2016 and quickly established herself in the L4WD category, primarily racing a Subaru STI nicknamed “Princess STI” as part of Frog Racing and Cooper Autoworks.
NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENTS
- 2016: Began stage rally career at age 46 with Black River Stages
- 2018: Finished 3rd overall in L4WD class at ARA Eastern Division Championship
- 2022: Won L4WD class at New England Forest Rally, beating husband Emmanuel for the first time
- 2025: Recognized as fastest woman ever up Mount Washington in a Subaru
INSPIRATIONS
Margaret draws inspiration from rally’s legendary women, particularly Michèle Mouton, Pat Moss, and Fabrizia Pons. She frequently points to rally’s unique history of female participation at the highest levels, noting that few other motorsports can boast such strong representation of women competitors. Her husband Emmanuel, also a rally driver, has been instrumental in her development and continues to influence her racing journey.
REPUTATION
Within the New England and Canadian rally communities, Margaret is known as a fierce grassroots competitor who embodies the sport’s welcoming spirit. She’s gained respect not just for her driving skills, but for her advocacy work and ability to change minds about women in motorsports. “Once we are in the car we are all equals,” she says, often educating those who assume she’s just along for the ride. Her reputation extends beyond competition—she’s known for helping fellow competitors, including flat-towing others after incidents, and for evangelizing rally racing to anyone “who will hold still long enough.”
FUTURE GOALS/PLANS
While specific 2025 racing plans aren’t publicly detailed, Margaret remains active with Frog Racing and Cooper Autoworks, continuing her mission to promote grassroots rally participation. Her ongoing involvement in media projects and community outreach suggests she’ll keep building bridges for women entering the sport while pursuing more podium finishes in North American rally events.
