Sandra Gómez is one of the most versatile and resilient riders in women’s motorcycle sport, a two-time Spanish Trials Champion who’s conquered everything from technical trials sections to the brutal endurance challenges of Red Bull Romaniacs—and become the first woman ever to finish the event’s unforgiving Gold Class.
EARLY YEARS
Born January 23, 1993, in Madrid, Spain, Sandra Gómez grew up in Cercedilla, in a family that lived and breathed motorcycles. Her parents put her on a bike when she was barely three years old, introducing her to riding as pure fun—no competition, no pressure, just family time on two wheels. Her older brother Alfredo, four years her senior, had already started riding, and Sandra followed his lead with the kind of determination that would define her career. Her parents encouraged her to try other sports—skiing, gymnastics—but Sandra knew where she belonged. Motorcycles were her calling.[2][3][7]
Alfredo became more than just her big brother; he was her best teacher, her mentor, and the person who taught her what it meant to be a winner. He encouraged her at every turn, shaping not just her riding technique but her competitive mindset. The bond between them would prove critical years later when he made a phone call that changed her trajectory entirely—inviting her to compete in SuperEnduro at the X Games Barcelona.[2][6][7]
OTHER INTERESTS
Sandra’s world has always revolved around motorcycles. Beyond riding, she’s traveled solo across continents to chase her racing dreams—booking her own flights and hotels to compete in AMA Endurocross events in the United States in 2013, a testament to her independence and hunger to test herself on international stages. She describes herself as someone who “loves the races and paddock,” which is pretty much everything you need to know about where her heart is.[7]
EARLY SUCCESS
Sandra made her competitive debut in 2003 at just 10 years old, entering the Spanish National trials series and finishing fourth—a remarkable result for a kid going up against seasoned riders. By 2007, at age 13, she was competing in her first FIM World Trials race, finishing 16th. The following year, she claimed third in the Spanish National Women’s A class and became part of Spain’s victorious Women’s Trial des Nations team in Andorra, the first of what would become seven gold medal performances.[1][3][7]
Her breakthrough came in 2011 when she swept all three Spanish National events to claim her first Spanish Women’s Trials Championship. The title announced her arrival as a force to be reckoned with, and she backed it up in 2012 by finishing third overall in the FIM World Women’s Trials Championship with runner-up finishes in Andorra and Switzerland. She was young, hungry, and improving with every ride.[1]
In 2013, Sandra made a bold move, signing as the first works rider for the Ossa factory team. “Ossa wanted a lady in the world championship,” she explained. “I tested the Ossa and it was very good to ride.” That same year, she traveled alone to the United States to compete in AMA Endurocross, then earned her first X Games medal—a bronze in SuperEnduro at X Games Barcelona. It was her introduction to a discipline that would become one of her specialties.[1][2][7]
NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENTS
- 2008: Third place, Spanish National Women’s A class; gold medal, Trial des Nations (Andorra) with Team Spain[1][3].
- 2011: Spanish Women’s Trials Champion (won all three national events); gold medal, Trial des Nations (Italy)[1][3].
- 2012: Third overall, FIM World Women’s Trials Championship (runner-up finishes in Andorra and Switzerland); gold medal, Trial des Nations (Switzerland)[1].
- 2013: Bronze medal, X Games Barcelona SuperEnduro (EnduroX); signed as first works rider for Ossa factory team[1][2][7].
- 2014: Spanish Women’s Trials Champion (won all three national rounds); third overall, FIM World Women’s Trials Championship (podium in three of four rounds); third place, SuperEnduro World Championship[1][7].
- 2016: Women’s SuperEnduro World Cup Champion (Prague finale)[2][3][9].
- 2020: First female rider to finish Red Bull Romaniacs Gold Class[3][6].
- 2021: Gold medal, Trial des Nations (seventh career TDN victory)[3].
- 2025: Leading Spain’s FIM Women’s World Trophy team at ISDE in Portimão, Portugal[5].
Her 2016 SuperEnduro World Cup title in Prague was the product of sheer grit. “In the first race I was leading all the way but in the last lap I crashed twice and Emma Bristow passed me,” she recalled. “In the second race I had a crash in the first corner and I thought the title was for Emma once again, but I re-started my machine and didn’t give up, I kept pushing as hard as I could and finally I passed Emma just one lap from the end. It was a crazy race and I was under pressure; I was really tired after the first race, but now I’m very proud of the result and finally the ultimate reward for my team.”[2]
Sandra’s X Games medal collection also includes a bronze from X Games Munich and a fourth-place finish at X Games Los Angeles, both in SuperEnduro events held after her 2013 debut.[7]
Her defining moment came at Red Bull Romaniacs in 2020. The year before, she had attempted the infamous Gold Class—widely considered one of the most brutal off-road motorcycle challenges on the planet—and didn’t finish, ending up hospitalized. Most riders would have called it quits. Sandra came back. “To finish the first day last year was an achievement but finishing the whole race seemed impossible,” she admitted. In 2020, she became the first woman in history to finish the Gold Class, shattering assumptions about what female riders could accomplish in extreme endurance racing.[3][6]
INSPIRATIONS
Alfredo Gómez has been Sandra’s greatest influence, her mentor and the voice in her head when the going gets tough. He taught her not just how to ride, but how to win, and his encouragement opened doors—like that fateful phone call inviting her to compete at X Games Barcelona. The Gómez family’s deep roots in motorcycling created the environment where Sandra’s talent could flourish, with her parents fostering her passion from the moment they first put her on a bike.[2][6][7]
REPUTATION
Sandra Gómez is widely regarded as “one of the most complete motorcycle riders” in the sport, a rare talent who excels across multiple disciplines—trials, enduro, and SuperEnduro. Spanish media has dubbed her the “Spanish Challenger” and praised her as “a brave pilot of great projection,” recognition of both her technical skill and her willingness to take on challenges that would intimidate most riders.[2][5][8]
Her reputation is built on resilience. She crashes, she gets back up, and she pushes through. “If you work hard and continue pushing day by day and section by section you will know you have given your best,” she’s said, a philosophy that’s visible in every race she enters. Her career has been marked by consistency and versatility—competing at the highest levels of women’s trials, taking on male-dominated endurance events, and pioneering achievements like her historic Romaniacs finish.[2][6]
The media coverage around Sandra has been overwhelmingly positive, highlighting her as a trailblazer for women in motorcycle sport. Her historic Romaniacs achievement cemented her status as someone who doesn’t just compete in a man’s world—she conquers it. Fans and industry insiders alike view her as someone who embodies the evolution of women’s motorcycle racing: technically brilliant, physically tough, and mentally unbreakable.[1][6][9]
FUTURE GOALS/PLANS
Sandra continues to compete at the highest levels, currently riding for TRS and Husqvarna. In 2025, she’s leading Spain’s FIM Women’s World Trophy team at the International Six Days Enduro (ISDE) in Portimão, Portugal, one of the most prestigious team events in off-road motorcycling. With her eyes firmly on the future, she’s made it clear she’s not done pushing boundaries. Her Romaniacs finish was a bucket-list achievement, but there are more goals ahead—and knowing Sandra, she’s already planning which impossible challenge to conquer next.[3][5][6][7]
