Racing being expensive, it gets difficult to fund yourself constantly. Formula 4 is pretty expensive but also the start of the ladder to Formula 1
As a young child, I played with dolls as much I played with toy cars

FULL BIO: Shriya Lohia
Shriya Lohia is blazing trails as India’s first female Formula 4 driver, transforming from a toy car-loving kid in Himachal Pradesh into the country’s most promising young motorsports talent. At just 16, she’s already rewriting the rules of what’s possible for women in Indian racing.
EARLY YEARS
Born around 2008-2009 in the serene hill station of Sundar Nagar, Himachal Pradesh, Shriya grew up surrounded by the kind of winding mountain roads that would later fuel her need for speed. The peaceful terrain of her hometown might seem an unlikely breeding ground for a racing prodigy, but for a kid who played with toy cars as enthusiastically as she did with dolls, it was perfect. Her supportive family watched as their daughter’s fascination with wheels evolved from childhood play into serious business. By age 9, she wasn’t just playing with cars anymore—she was driving them. That’s when she first stepped into a kart and discovered her calling in the Rotax Max India Karting Championship, marking the beginning of what would become a groundbreaking career in Indian motorsports.
OTHER INTERESTS
Beyond the track, Shriya maintains her focus on academics through homeschooling, currently studying science in Class 11. She’s managed to strike that delicate balance between pursuing her racing dreams and keeping up with her education—no small feat when you’re trying to become the first Indian woman in Formula 1. Music serves as her motivational soundtrack, helping fuel her determination both on and off the track.
EARLY SUCCESS
Shriya didn’t waste time making her mark. In 2018, at approximately age 10, she finished 4th in her very first competitive kart race in the Micro-Max class of the Rotax Max India Karting Championship—not bad for a debut. But she was just getting started. The following year brought her first major breakthrough when she claimed victory in the JK Tyre National Karting Championship, announcing herself as a force to be reckoned with. Working initially with international team Birel ART before moving to Indian team M Sport, she racked up over 30 podium finishes across national and international karting competitions between 2018 and 2022. Her talent didn’t go unnoticed—the Federation of Motor Sports Club of India recognized her potential early, awarding her the Outstanding Woman in Motorsports Award for four consecutive years from 2019 to 2022.

INSPIRATIONS
While Shriya hasn’t publicly named specific racing drivers as her heroes, her motivation comes from within and from the music that pumps her up before races. Her drive seems less about following in someone else’s footsteps and more about creating a completely new path—one that future generations of Indian women racers can follow.
REPUTATION
Shriya has earned her stripes as both a trailblazer and a genuine talent in Indian motorsports. The media consistently covers her achievements with enthusiasm, recognizing her not just as a novelty but as a serious competitor who happens to be breaking significant barriers. Her industry standing is solid—evidenced by strong sponsorship support from Akhilesh Reddy, who recognized her potential early and has been instrumental in shaping her path toward Formula 1. She’s become an implicit role model for young female racers across India, proving that gender is no barrier to speed and skill. Her reputation is spotless, with no controversies or disputes clouding her rising star—just pure talent, determination, and the respect of an industry watching her rewrite the record books.
FUTURE GOALS/PLANS
Shriya’s ultimate ambition is crystal clear: become the first Indian female Formula One driver. It’s a goal that requires navigating the expensive ladder of motorsports, but she’s got the talent and determination to make it happen. As she continues balancing her homeschooling with her racing career in 2025 and beyond, every race brings her one step closer to that F1 grid. With her proven track record and unwavering focus, she’s not just dreaming of making history—she’s actively writing it, one lap at a time.
