Summer's full bio:

(last updated January 26, 2026

Summer Richardson is a rare breed—a racer who conquered performance boat racing’s most coveted shootout crowns before swapping water for asphalt and climbing the NHRA drag racing ladder with the same fearless tenacity.

EARLY YEARS

Born March 23, 1978, Richardson launched her motorsports career on water rather than land, competing in 1-mile shootout events at Lake Havasu and Lake of the Ozarks. The adrenaline-fueled world of performance boat racing provided her first taste of speed, and she developed an appetite for going faster that would define her entire racing journey. When she decided to transition from water to land racing, Richardson brought her husband Travis Richardson and her father Don London along for the ride—turning speed into a full-blown family affair.

OTHER INTERESTS

Beyond the track and the water, Summer is a dedicated animal advocate deeply involved with Deity Animal Rescue, a Los Angeles-based nonprofit focused on rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming dogs. Her passion for animal welfare has led to appearances on “A Pawdcast,” where she’s discussed both her motorsports career and her commitment to saving animals in need. As a social media management professional, she’s also applied her digital marketing expertise to building the Swoop Motorsports brand—proving she’s just as strategic off the track as she is behind the wheel.

EARLY SUCCESS

Richardson dominated performance boat racing’s most prestigious events with an impressive string of victories. She claimed the Queen of the Desert title at Lake Havasu’s Desert Storm in 2012, 2013, 2015, and 2016—one of the biggest races in the sport. In 2013, she and her father Don London earned the Queen and King crowns respectively when Richardson ran 138 mph in a DCB F32 catamaran powered by twin Teague Custom Marine engines. She wasn’t content to stop there. At the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout, she drove her 32-foot DCB to an incredible 147 mph, cementing her reputation as the true Queen of the Shootout and the fastest solo female driver at the event. When she ran 176 mph—with her GPS registering 185 mph—she started thinking about competing not just for Queen but for King of the Desert outright.

NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENTS

  • 2012: Won Queen of the Desert title at Lake Havasu’s Desert Storm.
  • 2013: Claimed Queen of the Desert at Desert Storm and Queen crown at Lake of the Ozarks with 138 mph run; her father Don London won King.
  • 2015: Secured Queen of the Desert title at Desert Storm.
  • 2016: Won Queen of the Desert at Desert Storm for fourth time.
  • 2019: Earned Top Dragster license from Tom Bayer’s School of Drag Racing.
  • 2023: Made Top Alcohol Dragster debut at Southeast Division event; competed in six races driving Randy Meyer-owned and tuned dragster.
  • 2024: Competed in NHRA Top Dragster and Top Alcohol Dragster classes.

INSPIRATIONS

Richardson’s racing journey has been shaped by family support and legendary instructors. She first met Thomas Bayer while racing in the Frank Hawley Grad Series in Pomona, where she earned her Super Comp license in 1995. Years later, in 2019, she returned to Tom Bayer’s School of Drag Racing to earn her Top Dragster license. Her transition from boats to drag racing was facilitated when Top Fuel driver Shawn Langdon’s father, Chad Langdon, sold his entire Super Comp operation—an opportunity Richardson seized to continue her racing career on land.

REPUTATION

Summer Richardson has built a reputation as a fierce competitor who refuses to let gender stereotypes define her capabilities. She’s known in both the boat racing and drag racing communities for her technical knowledge and hands-on involvement with her equipment—understanding everything from valve springs and lifters to the intricacies of 614-cubic-inch Super Comp engines. Her willingness to push boundaries extends beyond the cockpit; she’s become an outspoken advocate for creative sponsorship solutions in motorsports, challenging traditional norms even when it costs her professionally. As both a racer and entrepreneur running Swoop Motorsports out of Santa Clarita, California, she’s demonstrated that success requires not just skill behind the wheel but business savvy and brand-building expertise.

FUTURE GOALS/PLANS

Richardson’s 2025 season hit an unexpected roadblock when NHRA officials reportedly banned her title sponsor, OnlyFans, effectively shutting down her planned 12-race schedule as a sponsored athlete. Despite this setback, her long-term ambitions remain undeterred. She’s publicly stated that Top Fuel is next on her to-do list—the ultimate goal in NHRA drag racing. Given her track record of conquering new disciplines and refusing to back down from challenges, it’s only a matter of when, not if, she’ll make that leap to the sport’s fastest and most demanding class.
