Video Description from YouTube:

Let’s test drive and review the supercharged Ford Mustang RTR Spec 3! And thanks to @XPELinc for sponsoring this video!

RTR Vehicles is a performance brand from drifting star Vaughn Gittin Jr., and “RTR” stands for “Ready to Rock.” The first Mustang RTR arrived to the public in 2009, and since then, RTR’s formed an official partnership with Ford. That partnership includes muscle cars like the Spec 3 and Spec 5, which begins its life as a stock Ford Mustang GT, and off-roaders like the new Ford Bronco RTR.

The heart of the RTR treatment on this Mustang Spec 3 is under the hood. Here, we have the Mustang GT’s classic 5.0-liter Coyote V8, which makes around 500 horsepower with natural aspiration. RTR slaps a 3.0-liter Whipple Supercharger on it.

Natural aspiration, turbocharging, and supercharging all have their benefits, and they all have their fan clubs. Engines need air to make power, so they “breathe.” Natural aspiration means the engine breathes normally, with no forced induction.

Forced induction gives the engine more air, thus more power, and turbochargers create boost using heat energy, while superchargers use mechanical energy — meaning turbos have a waiting period before the boost kicks in, while superchargers don’t. Turbochargers also have a whoooosh air sound, while superchargers have a whine.

This 3.0-liter Whipple Supercharger is a monster, and it takes this engine’s output from around 500 horsepower to 810 horsepower and 615 pound-feet of torque.  RTR does have an asterisk on this, because if you don’t spec the Mustang GT with the active-exhaust option, you’ll only make 800 horsepower. Rookie numbers, man.

The power in this car goes through a 10-speed automatic transmission to the rear wheels, but you can get a manual (and I recommend it, because the auto and manual transmissions are really good, and manual is always fun).

The official partnership means this RTR Spec 3 is a Mustang, and it doesn’t pretend to be something it’s not. The RTR website literally tells you that this car is a Mustang GT first. From there, RTR essentially customizes the car with a set of aftermarket parts and adjustments to make it look, feel, and sound cool.

You know how at home, you might lower your car, pop a supercharger on it, get some aftermarket wheels, swap in some new suspension, and do all that stuff? This comes with all that done, and because RTR specializes in these builds, you know the modifications will be cohesive.

We’ve driven a ton of Ford Mustangs recently, including a GT convertible. The car is so good, and with the RTR performance and appearance changes (the grill area! the body pieces and aero! the exhaust sound that’s incredible on throttle!), it gets tons of attention.

RTR says the Spec 3 can be built from any new Mustang GT chassis, and the Mustang GT starts at $46,560 U.S. dollars as of this video. You can grab lower-model fastbacks or top-model premium ones, and RTR will take it from there.

Based on my math, the Mustang GT that became this particular Spec 3 was about $60,000. The RTR package, which includes all the stuff we talked about and more, is $32,995 U.S. dollars. This one also has a few optional extras, like RTR puddle lamps to light up the ground at night, an X-pipe to make this car super loud, and 5-year ceramic coating. After options and fees, that brings the total price of this Mustang RTR Spec 3 to $99,604 U.S. dollars.

We’ll also talk about some recent RTR Spec 3 drama, and car enthusiasm as a whole.

Thanks for watching my YouTube channel. Enjoy the drive (and the video)!
