This LeGrand Mk1 “Cheetah” is a mid-engined formula racer that was originally built in July 1963 and is said to be one of six examples constructed by racing privateer and builder Alden LeGrand. The car was campaigned in Formula Four events between 1964 and 1966 and raced with SCCA and CSRG for several years before being offered as a BaT exclusive in May 2009. The car was subsequently refurbished under prior ownership, which included the installation of a Moore Speed-built 1,043cc air-cooled flat-twin sourced from a 1981 BMW R100 motorcycle, a repaint in the style of the car’s 1960s-era livery, and overhauls of the suspension and four-wheel disc brakes. Equipment includes a BMW 700 four-speed manual transaxle with reverse lock-out, removable fiberglass body panels affixed to a tube-frame chassis, a Safecraft fire suppression system, adjustable coilovers, a custom Fuel Safe fuel cell, and staggered 12″ and 13″ LeGrand cast wheels. This LeGrand Mk1 was sold on BaT in April 2023 and was recently acquired by the selling dealer, a BaT Local Partner. It is now offered in New York at no reserve with a set of wheels and other spare parts, historic literature and photos, design schematics, records, and a bill of sale.
