Video Description from YouTube:
Linda Vaughn spent close to five decades as the most recognizable face in American drag racing, known across the sport as Miss Hurst Golden Shifter and later as the First Lady of Motorsports. This video goes past the trophies and the Hurst Oldsmobile parade laps to a stretch of Linda Vaughn’s later life that almost never gets told, a compressed run of loss that started with the mysterious 1968 death of Formula One World Champion Jim Clark, the man she has called the love of her life in exactly one public sentence and never spoken of since, and built toward a rare cancer diagnosis, the sudden death of her longtime boyfriend, and her own heart attack in 2016.
Along the way we cover the real story of the Hurstettes, the team of women Linda Vaughn personally trained and managed at NHRA and drag racing events across the country, and the terrifying 1967 crash of the twin engine Hurst Hairy Olds at Niagara Dragway, where driver Joe Schubeck lost control in front of spectators and only a steel safety cable kept disaster from reaching the crowd. This is a Linda Vaughn documentary built for fans of NHRA history, Hurst Performance, Don Garlits, vintage drag racing, and the golden age of American motorsports who want the parts of the story that never made the magazine profiles.
