Video Description from YouTube:

Paula Murphy was one of the most accomplished women in American motorsports, yet her name is rarely mentioned today. She set land speed records at Bonneville, became the first woman licensed to drive a nitro Funny Car, drove at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, set NASCAR closed-course speed records, and survived a terrifying 258-mph rocket dragster crash at Sears Point in 1973.

From racing sports cars with Vasek Polak to driving jet-powered machines on the salt flats and match-racing Funny Cars across the country, Murphy’s career spanned multiple forms of motorsport at the highest level. She worked with legends like Andy Granatelli, Don Garlits, and Tom McEwen, and competed during one of the wildest eras of drag racing history.

Yet despite all of that, history largely forgot her name.

This video explores the life, achievements, and near-fatal crash of Paula Murphy, and why one of the most versatile racers of the 1960s and 1970s faded from the spotlight.
