Video Description from YouTube:
The Vintage Sports Car Club finale at Mallory Park again for a relatively relaxed day of racing, IF it was the 24 degrees that was advertised and not the 35 it felt like! A big thanks to Fred Harper as well that carried the onboard on the former Indy and Monzanapolis Indycar that you will be seeing more of soon!
Some grids certainly feeling the pinch this year but a fantastic grid of 17 of the 100+ year old Edwardian racers, plus the Lightstone LONG car race which featured several luxurious Rolls Royce machines certainly made up for it. What we lacked in numbers however didn’t translate to the racing at all with just about every race having a fantastic battle for the lead!
The opening Mallory Mug race was a 4 way fight for the win between Rob Beebee, Jeremy Flann, Simon Blakeney-Edwards and Sue Darbyshire after pole sitter Max Sowerby pulled off before the race began. Flann would win from Darbyshire’s 3 wheeled Morgan after Blakeney-Edwards and Beebee bowed out with mechanical dramas, allowing former F1 team owner, Vijay Mallya onto the 3rd step of the podium
Race 2 for the VSCC Specials gave us a fantastic battle for the win between Fin Cameron in another 3 wheel Morgan, against Rodney Seber in a Wolsley Hornet Special that looked giant in comparison. Seber beat Cameron on the road, but had jumped the start, demoting him back to second and Cameron to a win, and Jo Blakeney-Edwards in 3rd in another Frazer Nash
Richard Carter won a relatively simple Burghley Trophy from Christian Pedersen and Richard Marsh, and the Triple M-Challenge went to race winner Jmes Paynter, from 2nd places Roland Wettstein and 3rd, Steve McEvoy
The Allcomers Pre 66 race somehow takes the title of the best Formula Junior race I have seen all year, despite seeing the actual series twice in 2026 and this race not even being one of their rounds! Jon Milicevic and Rufus Flann spent most of the race glued together for the win, passing multiple times after clawing their way back past Fred Harper who jumped the pair off the line in the big Kurtis Offenhauser Indycar, which unfortunately jumped out of gear for good at the end of lap 1. Milicevic caught Steph Wilton too quickly as the leader a few laps from the end, allowing Flann through to win the race, with Milicevic 2nd and Robin Longdon 3rd.
The Boulogne Trophy saw another great battle with Pat Blakeney-Edwards winning this time, from 2nd placed Rob Beebee and 3rd placed Roland Wettstein. The top 2 perhaps taking the results they were after in race 1!
I’d love to be able to tell you who won the Dick Baddiley Trophy for Edwardian racing cars, but the results for it on TSL are the wrong ones, and with it being a scratch race, that would be rather important! I’m going to put my money on Ben Collings in the big Mercedes. Feel free to correct me in the comments!
Anthony Seber managed to win the Handicap Race for Pre-War Cars, fending off yet another Blakeney-Edwards! This time James Blakeney-Edwards came home 2nd, with Harry Irving’s Alvis Special in 3rd.
And lastly the Longstone LONG Car race that featured perhaps the most amount of Rolls Royce machines racing outside of a large banger meeting, was won by the Humphries pairing in a Bentley Special by almost a full lap. 2nd was Roberts and Carr pairing in the 120 year old Bianchi 28/40! And 3rd would go to a mysterious character who’s only listed name in the results, is Wadsworth. Very fitting for the period I suppose!
