Video Description from YouTube:
Formula 1 has gone 50 years without a woman starting an official World Championship race — but the story of women in F1 is far from empty. From Maria Teresa de Filippis and Lella Lombardi to Susie Wolff, Jamie Chadwick, Jessica Hawkins and Doriane Pin, women have repeatedly pushed toward the top level of motorsport.
The last woman to compete in an F1 World Championship race was Italy’s Lella Lombardi, who raced in the 1970s and became the only woman to score points in the championship, earning half a point in the shortened 1975 Spanish Grand Prix. Before her, Maria Teresa de Filippis became the first woman to start a Formula 1 World Championship race in 1958.
But the path has remained extraordinarily difficult. Drivers including Divina Galica and Giovanna Amati entered F1 weekends but failed to qualify, while others later took roles as test, development or affiliated drivers. Susie Wolff made history by driving a Williams during an official F1 practice session in 2014, while Tatiana Calderon, Jamie Chadwick, Jessica Hawkins and Doriane Pin have continued to test or develop within the F1 ecosystem.
This complete historical look traces the women of Formula 1 from the 1950s to today, examining the pioneers, the barriers, the breakthrough moments and the unanswered question: when will the next woman finally start an F1 World Championship race?
From Lella Lombardi to today’s rising generation, this is the story of women in Formula 1 — and the 50-year wait that continues.
