Formula E Season 12 Kicks Off in São Paulo with Breakthrough EV Racing Tech

• Formula E’s 12th season launches December 6 at São Paulo Street Circuit, where 20 electric race cars will hit 200mph on the 2.93km Brazilian track. These cars accelerate 0-60mph in just 1.82 seconds, showcasing how far electric racing has evolved since drivers had to switch cars mid-race in early seasons due to limited battery range.
• Today’s Formula E cars start races with 52 kilowatt-hours but consume up to 90kWh during competition, creating strategic energy management challenges. Teams solve this through regenerative braking that turns motors into generators and new Pit Boost technology that delivers 3.85kWh in 30 seconds at 600kW – four times faster than commercial chargers.
• The racing innovations are already transferring to everyday vehicles, with battery management systems like Fortescue Zero’s Elysia being added to Jaguar Land Rover cars for faster charging. As Beth Paretta notes, “The racetrack is a laboratory,” and these São Paulo race cars carry technology that will be in consumer vehicles within years.
