EARLY SUCCESS

Most people ease into racing. Maybe some karting, a few track days, working their way up. Tegan Hammond’s first time behind the wheel? A 294 MPH run at the Bonneville Salt Flats in 2011 that was featured on Canadian Discovery Channel.

Read that again. Her literal first time in the driver’s seat, she went 294 miles per hour.

One year later, she returned to Bonneville and clocked 302 MPH, becoming the seventh woman in the world to join the 300 MPH Club. Not the seventh American woman. The seventh woman, period. On the entire planet.

Then in 2014, friends who knew about her racing background invited her to Rick Seaman’s Level 1 stunt driving course “just for fun.” She fell hard. Bought an old BMW M3 and started training on her own, because that’s what you do when you discover your calling.

In 2015, she showed up to the Vintage Sprint Race at Santa Maria Raceway—only the second time she’d sat in a driver’s seat for actual racing. She was up against an all-male field of seasoned vintage racers in 250-horsepower machines on dirt. She won the main event.

Second. Time. In. A. Race. Car.

When Ferrari needed a driver for their 2019 488 Pista Spider commercial—the one that premiered at their pavilion at the Paris Motor Show—they chose Tegan Hammond. She became the first female driver ever featured in Ferrari’s promotional work. That’s not just a cool credit. That’s Ferrari, a brand notoriously particular about its image, saying “her” when they could have said anyone.

A biographical film described her as an “invigorating and talented” figure with an “adrenaline high that has been in her blood ever since day one.” The work speaks for itself: brands like Ford, BMW, and Mercedes keep calling.
