Malicia's bio:

Malicia Lawrence is a trailblazing drag racer and executive at the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) who made history as the first woman to win a time bracket class outright, defeating male competitors in Guyana’s high-octane motorsports scene.

EARLY YEARS

Growing up with a family deeply connected to the motorsports community in Guyana, Lawrence was introduced to the exhilarating world of racing at a young age. Surrounded by the roar of engines and the smell of burning rubber, she developed a passion that would eventually propel her into one of the country’s most male-dominated arenas. Her early exposure to the track wasn’t just casual—it was familial, embedded in her DNA, and it set the stage for a career that would rewrite the record books.

OTHER INTERESTS

Beyond her achievements behind the wheel, Lawrence has channeled her passion for motorsports into leadership and advocacy. As an executive at GMR&SC, she’s been a vocal advocate for female participation in racing, working to create a more inclusive environment for women who want to compete. She took it upon herself to establish nurturing pathways for female racers, recognizing that representation matters—not just on the track, but in the boardroom, too. Her work has helped lay the groundwork for dedicated female classes in both drag and circuit racing, ensuring the next generation of Guyanese women have a lane of their own.

EARLY SUCCESS

Lawrence made her mark in drag racing behind the wheel of a Subaru Forester, clocking a 15.641-second pass in early competition. She quickly graduated to faster machinery, piloting a Toyota Altezza with serious speed. Her natural talent and fearless driving style caught attention, but it was her ability to consistently post competitive times that proved she wasn’t just there to participate—she was there to win. And win she did.

NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENTS

  • 2024: Became the first female driver in Guyana to win a time bracket class outright, defeating male competitors in the open 14-second category at the 2024 Drag Wars 3 with a blistering 13.037-second pass in her Toyota Altezza[1].
  • 2024: Topped the female class at Drag Wars 3, further cementing her status as a dominant force in Guyanese motorsport[2].
  • 2024: Won the female class at the rain-affected 2024 Drag Wars 3 international showdown at South Dakota Circuit[3].
  • 2025: Made her circuit racing debut on July 6, 2025, driving a Toyota Levin for Team SVC Racing in the female class at Round Two of the 2025 Circuit Racing Championship on the newly extended 1.6-mile South Dakota Circuit[4].
  • 2025: Won the Female Class at the ENet Caribbean Clash of Champions[5].

REPUTATION

Lawrence is regarded as a trailblazer in Guyana’s motorsports community—not just for her wheel-to-wheel skill, but for her leadership off the track. Her historic win in the 14-second bracket shattered assumptions about what women could achieve in drag racing, and her transition to circuit racing has only amplified her reputation as a driver who refuses to be boxed in. She’s respected for her consistency, her advocacy work, and her willingness to push boundaries in a sport that hasn’t always welcomed women with open arms. Peers see her as both competitor and ally, someone who’s as interested in opening doors as she is in crossing finish lines first.

FUTURE GOALS/PLANS

Having successfully transitioned from drag racing to circuit racing in 2025, Lawrence is focused on establishing herself as a competitive force in wheel-to-wheel competition. With her debut in the female circuit racing class complete, she’s likely eyeing further development with Team SVC Racing and continued participation in the GMR&SC championship series. Her dual role as racer and executive positions her to continue advocating for women’s participation in motorsports, with the full female circuit racing class she helped launch serving as a platform for future talent.
