GRRL! SUMMARY:

  • ZOE WOODS delivered a masterclass in wet weather racing at Sandown, making the bold call to switch to rain tires while most competitors stayed on slicks. Her strategic gamble paid off spectacularly as she rocketed from ninth to second at the start of race two, then seized the lead and built a commanding multi-second advantage. Though her teammate Nash Morris couldn’t hold off the charge on deteriorating wet tires after the pit stop, their second-place finish marked their third podium of the season and kept them firmly in fourth in the championship standings.
  • Rookie SUMMER RINTOULE continues to prove she belongs in GT4 Australia’s top tier, claiming her fourth podium finish of an impressive debut season. The 18-year-old, who stepped up from Toyota GR 86 Cup to race in the competitive Silver class with Triple Eight Race Engineering, inherited second place in the opening race when a competitor received a penalty for contact. Her consistent pace alongside teammate Jarrod Hughes has them sitting fifth in the championship, with Hughes setting a new GT4 lap record during his charge through the field in race two.
  • Both women showcased exactly why the series is better with them in it, navigating chaotic conditions that saw multiple cars sliding off track and safety car periods bunching up the field. Woods’ tire strategy gamble and Rintoule’s steady progression through traffic demonstrate the racing intelligence that’s made them forces to be reckoned with in their respective campaigns. With The Bend coming up September 5-7, both drivers are positioned to challenge for that breakthrough victory we’ve been waiting to see.
