Remember the Ice Bucket Challenge?
You promoted a cause, dumped ice-filled water over yourself, then dared someone else to follow.
Influencer/Model and all-around amazing person Jordan Rand just reincarnated it in an entirely new way for women in motorsport. And we at GRRL! are calling it – with absolutely no proof – a world record. What did she do?
Along with Compact Octane and Gigi Chow, Rita and Lyle Geoff Brown of the California Roadracing Association (CRA), Jordan sponsored a Ladies of CRA weekend at Buttonwillow in California over the 10/16-18 weekend. Hosting 45 total riders – 13 first-time track riders, women came out. And 21 of them left with motorcycle racing licenses!
Yes. Twenty-fucking-One!
Is it really a world record? Have we researched it (beyond asking AI if there even is a world record)? Nope. But we’re ready to defend it until someone beats it. And that’s exactly the point.
How it started
Jordan was an avid track rider but didn’t have a race license herself. Then racer Bridgette LeBer and her Women of Go foundation launched an initiative with a similar women’s day in Arizona (story here). Jordan participated in that inaugural event, won, and wanted to pay it forward for other women. With Compact Octane on board and Gigi Chow and her CRA making it happen, over 40 riders signed up (there was a waiting list) and hit the track – some of them for the very first time. (Bridgette wrote about the weekend here.)
One woman inspired another, and that woman then helped 21 women accomplish something they’d only dreamed of.
The challenge for you other racing associations
Put on an event where more than 21 women earn their racing license, and we’ll crown you here the new (totally unofficial) world champion. There’s no trophy, but serious bragging rights – that currently belong to Jordan, Gigi, and Compact Octane.
We’re calling out:
- Motorcycle racing associations
- Sports car clubs
- Drifting groups, drag racing associations
- Rally groups (Rebelle Rally, we’re already cheering for you)
- Every motorsport association
Why now
Women’s sports are booming. Women in motorsport are winning in a “man’s” sport, but nobody knows it. This challenge can be part of the effort to change that.
Plan your event and send us your info. We’ll share it across all our media. Post it with #Jordan21
Think your motorsport supports women?
Prove it. 🙂
