GRRL! SUMMARY:

  • AIMEE WATTS made an impressive step up to Porsche Sprint Challenge Great Britain’s top RS Am class, immediately showing she belongs with the big players by qualifying fifth at Donington Park. Moving from Mazda MX-5 Supercup to the most powerful Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS specification is no joke, but this rookie demonstrated top-5 pace right out of the gate in free practice, proving her previous success as a multiple race winner wasn’t a fluke.
  • The Clean Racing driver’s promising debut took a frustrating turn when a high-speed incident at the Old Hairpin on lap three ended her weekend prematurely. WATTS had made a clean start from 14th overall and was hunting down a top-5 class position when the crash occurred, causing enough damage to force withdrawal from the remainder of the event. Sometimes racing gives you lemons, but her pace before the incident showed this setback is just a speed bump.
  • What we witnessed at Donington was a driver who’s clearly ready for this level of competition, improving by over a second during practice and coming within a tenth of her testing time in qualifying. With experienced teammates Toby Trice and Matt Kyle-Henney to lean on and two home races at Brands Hatch coming up, WATTS has the foundation to bounce back strong when the series returns in May.
